Abstract

Tävlingar är ett vanligt arbetssätt inom arkitektyrket och ger möjligheten att utveckla och testa sina kunskaper i likvärdig konkurrens med andra inom samma yrke. Genom att delta i en tävling såg vi en möjlighet att prova detta sätt att arbeta som inte testats under samma press och konkurrens under utbildningen. Detta var ett sätt för oss att bygga erfarenheter inför det kommande yrkeslivet och samtidigt få använda den kunskap vi samlat på oss under de cirka fem åren på utbildningen till landskapsarkitekter.
Vi valde att delta i den allmänna arkitekttävlingen ”Selmas park” i stadsdelen Backa, Göteborg. Tävlingen gick ut på att ta fram ett gestaltningsförslag för ett parkstråk i Backa, där en ny stadsdel håller på att växa fram. Parken skulle fungera som en grön nerv i området och binda ihop den äldre bebyggelsen med den nya. Uppgiften för tävlingen var:
• Att gestalta ”Selmas park - Framtidens park”.
• Att motivera utgångspunkter i förslaget samt varför och hur förslaget bidrar till att vision och programönskemål för parken uppfylls.
Vårt mål med denna uppsats var att utforma en attraktiv, trygg och hållbar park utifrån den givna visionen och bygga erfarenheter inför vårt kommande yrkesliv. Den frågeställning som vi ville besvara var: ”Hur skapar vi ett gestaltningsförslag för Selmas park i Backa som svarar på tävlingsprogrammets vision om en attraktiv, trygg och hållbar park?”
Detta uppnåddes genom att göra en grundlig inventering av det material som fanns tillgängligt i tävlingsprogrammet, en SWOT och Lynch inspirerad analys, tillämpning av ett bearbetat parkprogram från Göteborgs stad samt att studera referensobjekt med liknande förutsättningar för ytterligare inspiration. Den vision som vi sedan kom fram till baserades på den givna visionen i tävlingen och utgjorde grundpelarna i vårt koncept ”BI-EFFEKT”. Konceptets största fokus är på det sociala livet men även den ekologiska hållbarheten. Dessa två aspekter skapar tillsammans en identitetsstark och attraktiv parkmiljö. Med vårt förslag för Selmas park skapas nya bieffekter i Backa som gemenskap, hållbarhet och identitet.
Resultatet av vårt examensarbete är tävlingsförslaget med namnet ”BI-EFFEKT: Ett tävlingsförslag för Selmas park i Backa, Göteborg. Planscher.”
Dessa är utformade på samma sätt som inlämningen av presentationen för tävlingsförslaget arkitekttävlingen. Den skriftliga delen beskriver arbetsprocessen, gestaltningsförslaget mer ingående samt en diskussion innehållande reflektion över våra resultat.
Allmänna insikter om att ställa upp i en arkitekttävling är att det finns många olika aspekter som påverkar resultatet, vikten av presentation och layout och inte bara fokus på innehållet samt vikten av att våga tänka ”utanför boxen”, i vårt fall programmet för tävlingen. Vår gestaltning är dock bara en av flera tänkbara lösningar för Selmas park, men förhoppningen är att den gestaltning som vi tagit fram kan fungera som inspiration för andra som har i uppgift att gestalta parkområden med liknande förutsättningar i framtiden.

Competitions are common within the architectural practice community and give the possibility to test your skills in equal competition with others in the same profession. By participating in a competition we saw an opportunity to experience this way of working which is common in the profession but not tested under the same pressure during the education. This was a way for us to build experiences for the upcoming professional life and at the same time using all the knowledge we have gathered over the five years of education to become landscape architects.
We chose to participate in a public architectural competition for Selma’s Park in the district of Backa, in Gothenburg Sweden. The task was to develop a design proposal for a park in Backa, where new housing areas and a new neighborhood is emerging. The new park will serve as a green structure in the district linking old buildings with the new. The task for the competition was:
• To design the park of Selma
• To motivate the basis of the proposal, as well as showing why and how the proposal contributes to fulfilling the vision
Our aim with this thesis was to design an attractive, safe and sustainable park due to the given vision and build experiences for our future work with competitions. The problem we wanted to solve was: “How do we create a design proposal for Selma’s park in Backa that answers to the vision of the competition?”
This was achieved by doing a thorough inventory of the documents available in the program of the competition, a SWOT and Lynch inspired analysis, applying a processed park program from the city of Gothenburg and study reference objects with similar conditions for further inspiration. The vision that we came up with was based on the vision in the competition and our concept is called “Side effect” (BI-EFFEKT). The main focus of the concept is on the social life but also on the ecological sustainability. These two aspects together create a strong identity and an attractive park. With our proposal for Selma’s park new side effects in Backa are created: community, sustainability and identity.
The result of our master thesis is the proposal ”BI-EFFEKT” (Side effect) and these was the entry we handed in for the architectural competition. The written part of the project describes the working process, the design proposal in detail and contains a discussion and reflection over our results.
General insights about architectural competitions is that there are many different aspects that affects the result; the importance of the presentation and layout not only the content and the importance of thinking outside the box - in our case the program of the competition.
Our proposal “BI-EFFEKT” is only one of several possible solutions for Selma's park, a total of 20 entries were handed in to the competition, but our hope is that the design that we have developed can serve as inspiration for others who have the task to design a park with similar conditions in the future.
