Abstract

Barn spenderar större delen av sin vakna tid på förskolan, något som gör att för-skolegårdens utformning blir viktigt för barnens utevistelse. I och med förtätning blir barnens ytor i staden hela tiden mindre. Något som gör att förskolegårdar krymper och blir mer hårdgjorda då vegetation inte klarar av slitaget. Syftet med uppsatsen har varit att jämföra hur vegetation påverkar barns användning av sin förskolegård. Detta för att man vid framtida planering ska veta hur utformningen och materialet på en förskolegård påverkar hur barnen använder sig av den. I arbetet gjordes en förstudie, observationer och en jämförelse mellan de två för-skolornas resultat. Observationerna utfördes på två förskolegårdar, en mer natur-likt utformad med mycket vegetation och en mer modernt utformad med konstgräs och endast lite vegetation. Under observationstillfällena antecknades var femte minut vad barnen gjorde och var på gårdarna de var någonstans. Däre-mellan observerades även saker som hur barnen förhöll sig till varandra och hur tempot och ljudnivån var på gårdarna. I resultatet redovisas hur många gånger barnen i snitt utförde kategorierna som observerades och även var på gårdarna de utfördes, samt övriga observationer. Resultatet visar att det både finns likheter och skillnader i hur barnen använder förskolegårdarna. På den mer naturlika går-den användes hela ytan ungefär lika mycket, medan det på den moderna gården var vissa platser som användes mycket mer.

Children spend most of their waking hours at pre-school, meaning the design of the pre-school yard is especially important for children’s time spent outside. Due to densification in urban areas, there is becoming increasingly less space for chil-dren in the city. This problem also translates to pre-schools, which are shrinking in size and becoming more ‘hardened’ since the vegetation cannot withstand the wear afforded to it. The purpose of this essay has been to compare how the vege-tation affects the children’s usage of their pre-school yard, in order to assist fu-ture planning where it will be valuable to know how the design, and how materials used in a pre-school yard will affect how it is used. Along with a pre-study, in this assignment, observations and a comparison of the results from the two pre-schools were made. The observations were made on two pre-school yards, one with a more natural design with a lot of vegetation, and one with a more modern design, containing artificial grass and a low amount of vegetation. During the observation, it was noted every five minutes what the children were doing and in which area of the yard. Other observations included; how the chil-dren interacted with each other, the mobility levels of the children and the sound level in the yard. The results display where in the yard, and how many times the children performed the categories observed on average, ultimately showing that there are both similarities and differences on how the children use the yards. In the more natural yard, the whole area was used to roughly equal measure, where-as on the modern yard there were areas used more frequently than others.
