Abstract

kommunala fastighetsbolaget Telge Hovsjö i miljonprogrammet Hovsjö i Södertälje.
Utifrån konkreta exempel i intervjun kopplas

Efforts with social factors in community planning are often overshadowed by quantitative, mainly economic, elements. The segregation in many cities increases and many people
end up in lifelong alienation. This essay aims to analyse strategies in physical refurbishment that increase social integration and counteract alienation in socially exposed
neighbourhoods. With medical sociologist Aaron Antonovsky’s theory SOC (Sense of Coherence) as a base, the local real estate concern Telge Hovsjö’s drive in the Swedish
million programme Hovsjö in Södertälje is analysed. The theory deals with how individuals experience comprehensibility, manageability and meaningfulness in relation to their surroundings. There is an expansive citizen involvement with a main focus on youths in
the work by Telge Hovsjö. As a result of the effort in Hovsjö the physical environment has improved as well as the social structure. The question formulations for the essay are: Which strategies in the refurbishment of the physical environment in Hovsjö have increased the social integration and diminished the alienation in the neighbourhood? and
How can the results of the efforts in Hovsjö influence the residents’ SOC? Litterature in social community planning and data on the case Hovsjö form the basis of the study. The
essay also comprises an interview with Patrik Derk, CEO of Telge Hovsjö. This work helps us to better understand how the positive development was actualized. Tangible examples
from the interview illustrate the link between the Hovsjö effort and the SOC theory.
The successful development of Hovsjö includes determination, long-sightedness, engagement, collaboration and an evident presence of businesses, which support and
please the inhabitants.
