Abstract

Syfte med detta examensarbete är att ta fram ett gestaltningsförslag för utemiljön på Byle Gårds hospice. Målsättningen är att ge besökande barn en lekvänlig utemiljö samt att tillvarata och utveckla tomtens befintliga kvaliteter för patienter, besökare (vuxna och barn) och personal.

Med enkla medel vill jag lyfta fram de befintliga naturkvalitéerna på tomten och skapa en varierad och rekreativ miljö för alla åldrar. Jag vill inbjuda till rörelse runt tomten och erbjuda olika sinnesupplevelser som ger vila i det tunga allvar som vilar över hospicet, där anhöriga och personal tillbringar den sista tiden tillsammans med patienten.

Som grund för gestaltningen har jag studerat forskningsbaserad litteratur om barn och deras utemiljöer samt litteratur om palliativ vård. Jag har även vid flera tillfällen intervjuat personal och fastighetsförvaltaren på Byle Gårds hospice för att tillgodose verksamhetens specifika behov i mitt utformningsförslag.

En slutsats jag dragit utifrån litteraturen jag läst är att barn inte har så stort behov av traditionellt utformade lekplatser då de mest är utformade utifrån vuxnas syn på lek. Det som barnen behöver är att utemiljöerna de vistats i är lekvänliga. Naturmiljöer är de i särklass mest upplevelserika miljöer som barn kan leka i. Dessa miljöer är mycket inspirerande och rekreerande, även för vuxna. Detta teoretiska perspektiv har varit en inspirationskälla till gestaltningsförslagets koncept: Omfamning.

The purpose of this master thesis is to create a design proposal for the outdoor environment of Byle Gård’s hospice. The main goal is to offer visiting children a play-friendly setting furthermore to utilize and develop the qualities of the property for patients, visitors and personnel. The aim of the design proposal is to enhance the playability all over the property by developing the existing nature qualities.
By simple means I want to enhance the existing nature qualities to create a varied and recreational environment for all ages. I want to encourage movement around the property and offer different sensory experiences that give rest in the gravity of the hospice, where relatives and personnel spend the last time together with the patient.
The design is based on research-based literature about children and their outdoor environment as well as literature about palliative care. I have interviewed the personnel and the property manager at Byle Gård’s hospice to implement the sites specific needs in my design.
A conclusion I have drawn from the literature is that children don’t have as big a need of traditionally designed playgrounds as their designs are mostly based on adults’ views of play. What children need is that the environments they use encourage and are suitable for play. Nature environments are the by far the most experientially rich places that children can play in. These grounds are inspiring and recreational for adults as well. This theoretical perspective has been a source of inspiration for the design concept: Embrace.
