Abstract

When statistics show that we are more mobile than ever before, you want to reflect on who is behind these figures. Young people are usually singled out to be those that move most, and there is a general perception in our society that they should move out when they left high school. Has this attitude towards them influenced the choice to move, how does society and others look at those who stay are some of the concerns raised with me when I tried to sort out my own reasons for moving from Värmland, as an 19-year-old. Young people have answered my wonderings, and they have been given me many answers, and also led me to look at the underlying theories on this subject.
It has become an interesting insight into how young people consider themselves to be independent and aware of their surroundings. Something that previous studies and philosophers mean is specific for this particular period in life to show themselves as individuals, even if unconsciously affected by their closest relationships. Something that seems to be like a law for the development in individuals lives, before starting a family themselves and then go back to being dependent on close relationships again, in the same way they themselves were dependent on their parents. There are many different reasons why people move from one city or town, the reasons that I found most interesting is connected to the relationships we have in life. It is also shown in this study as well as in others confirms that the widths of relationships is deeper than what the youths can imagine, and it will continue to affect generations to come.
My intention with my essay is to understand if rumors about your hometown and the influence from family can affect the choices to stay or move from your hometown by using the numbers and the answers I received from my inquiries.
