Abstract

Syftet med detta kandidatarbete har varit att observera utvalda skolgårdar i olika socioekonomiska områden i Uppsala kommun, för att vidare jämföra om och hur utformningen skiljer sig dem emellan. Observationen har gjorts med hjälp av ett protokoll där kvalitetsaspekter som främjar fysisk aktivitet poängsatts. Vi har analyserat observationsprotokollets resultat för att se hur skolgårdens gestaltning i sin tur påverkar elevernas förutsättningar för fysisk aktivitet beroende på socioekonomisk status. Studien lyfter vikten av en väl utformad skolgårds betydelse för barns utveckling och fysisk aktivitet, särskilt i ett samhälle där rörelsefriheten minskar. Sveriges mål om en likvärdig skola skapar en problematik där skolverksamhetens andra delar än skolgården prioriteras.

Studiens resultat visar på att Uppsala kommuns elever inte har samma förutsättningar för fysisk aktivitet. Skolor belägna i områden med högst socioekonomisk status fick högre totalpoäng än de skolorna med lägst socioekonomisk status. Vårt resultat indikerar på att Sveriges mål om en likvärdig skola ej nås och att kommunens yngre generations förutsättningar för fysisk aktivitet ej är likvärdig. Vi hoppas att arbetet kan skapa en djupare förståelse som alltmer tillåter att den välutformade skolgården prioriteras mer, för en likvärdig skola.

The purpose of this bachelor's thesis has been to observe selected schoolyards in different socio-economic areas in Uppsala Municipality, in order to further compare whether and how the design differs between them. The observation has been made using a protocol where quality aspects that promote physical activity were scored. We have analyzed the results of the observation protocol to see how the design of the schoolyard in turn affects the students' conditions for physical activity depending on their socio-economic status. The study highlights the importance of a well-designed schoolyard for children's development and physical activity, especially in a society where freedom of movement is decreasing. Sweden's goal of an equal school creates a problem where other parts of school operations than the schoolyard are prioritized.

The results of the study show that Uppsala Municipality's students do not have the same conditions for physical activity. Schools located in areas with the highest socio-economic status received higher total scores than schools with the lowest socio-economic status. Our results indicate that Sweden's goal of an equal school is not being reached and that the conditions for physical activity of the municipality's younger generation are not equal. We hope that our work can create a broader understanding that increasingly allows the well-designed schoolyard to be prioritized more, for an equal school.
