Abstract

Industrialisering, mekanisering och professionalisering har marginaliserat traditionella yrkesverk-samheter världen över. Denna uppsats undersöker hur identiteten hos yrkesfiskare på Kosteröarna i norra Bohuslän förändrats över tid till följd av 1900-talets moderniserings- och professionaliserings-processer. Analysen är baserad på en narrativanalys utifrån semistrukturerade intervjuer med bofasta på Kosteröarna som satts i relation till tidigare forskning på området identitet kopplat till fiske och identitet. Slutsatsen är att identiteten förändrats från en syn på fisket som en av många näringar till en tydligare yrkesprofilering där fisket är den huvudsakliga och enskilda inkomstkällan.

Industrialization, mechanization, and professionalization has marginalized traditional professional activities all over the world. This thesis examines how the identity of fishermen on the Koster islands in northern Swedish Bohuslän has undergone a rapid change as a result of the 20th century’s mod-ernization- and professionalization- processes. The analysis is based on the narratives collected from semi-structured interviews with the inhabitants of Koster put in relation to previous research withing the field of fishing and identity. The conclusion is that the fishermen’s identity has changed from seeing the fishing occupation as one amongst many withing a livelihood to a more concrete profes-sional profile where fishing is the main and only source of income.
