Abstract

Uppsatsen undersöker tendenser de senaste 20 årens utveckling inom potatis. Trenderna och tendenserna som hittas jämförs med de ambitioner och värderingar som finns i livsmedelsstrategin, antagen av regeringen 2017. Resultaten analyseras utifrån teorier om sårbarhet samt ett antal mindre teorier om konsumtion och konsumentbeteende. Slutsatsen är att strategin stävar mot att Sveriges livsmedelsproduktion ska öka genom investeringar och ett rationellt brukande. Detta för att kunna bli en konkurrenskraftig spelare på den internationella marknaden. Konkurrensutsättningen och de åtgärder som tagits för att anpassa sig efter det systemet är dock vad som gett oss de sårbarheter som finns inom potatisproduktion idag. Livsmedelssystemet skulle kunna bli mindre sårbart av att utgå ifrån produktionen och dess förutsättningar snarare än konsumtionen och dess önskemål.

The thesis investigates tendencies in potato production during the past 20 years. The tendencies found are compared with the ambitions and values of Livsmedelsstrategin, The Food strategy adopted by Swedish government in 2017. The result is analyzed with the help of theories of vulnerability, and a few minor theories regarding consumption and consumer behavior. The conclusion is that the Swedish government is aiming to increase food production through investments and efficient farming with hopes of becoming a competitive player on the world market. However, exposing our-self to competition and taking actions to adapt our food production to the capitalistic systemis what caused the vulnerability that we see today. Swedish food production could become less vulnerable by emanating from the conditions of food production rather than the consumers and their demands.
