Abstract

I ytterkanten av städer, vid övergången mellan stad och landsbygd, finns ofta ett landskap vars karaktär är otydlig och svår att sätta fingret på. Dessa platser brukar gemensamt kallas peri-urbana landskap och kännetecknas bland annat av en otydlighet gällande övergripande planering och struktur – något som ofta leder till dålig tillgång till kommunikationer och samhällsservice. Dessa landskap har, i synnerhet sedan flyktingkrisen 2015 använts för att husera asylsökande och nyanlända personer i såväl Sverige som i andra europeiska länder. Många svenska kommuner fick svårt att ordna bostäder åt de nyanlända personer som hänvisats till dem, något som ofta resulterade i byggandet av tillfälliga modulbostäder – inte sällan placerade i stadens utkant. I denna uppsats presenteras ett exempel på ett sådant tillfälligt boende, beläget i ett peri-urbant landskap. Temat som undersöks är på vilka sätt det peri-urbana landskapet kan erbjuda de boende förutsättningar för social hållbarhet i allmänhet och samhällsintegrering i synnerhet. För att svara på frågan genomförs en platsanalys baserad på teman inom diskursen för social hållbarhet. I analysen av platsen framkommer bland annat brister så som bullerproblematik samt upplevd och faktisk otrygghet, men även positiva aspekter så som närhet till rekreationsområden och goda kommunikationer till mer centrala delar av staden. Resultaten från analysen kopplas sedan till en större problemrymd och jämförs med aktuell forskning i diskussionsdelen.

At the edge of cities, where the city becomes countryside, are often found landscapes which characters are ambiguous and hard to pin down. These places are commonly referred to as peri-urban landscapes and are characterized, among other things, by their indistinct structure and lack of planning, often leading to poor access to public transport and services. These landscapes have, since the refugee crisis of 2015, been used to house asylum seekers and newly arrived immigrants in both Sweden and other European countries. Many local municipalities in Sweden struggled to arrange accommodation for the immigrants assigned to them which often resulted in the building of temporary modular houses placed on the outskirts of cities. In this paper an example of this kind of accommodation, situated in a peri-urban setting, is presented. The focus is on investigating the ways in which the peri-urban landscape can provide immigrants with the conditions for social sustainability in general and social integration in particular. To answer these questions, a site study is performed based on themes drawn from the discourse of social sustainability aiming to nuance the conception and understanding of this type of landscape and situation. Presented in the site study are shortcomings such as noise from traffic and perceived and actual insecurity, but also positive aspects such as proximity to recreational amenities and public transportation. The results from the analysis are then reviewed in a larger context and compared with current research in the discussion chapter.
