Abstract

Syftet med detta arbete var att problematisera varför användningen av konstgräs har ökat i framförallt parker och lekplatser. Arbetet tar till och med upp hur konstgräset påverkar miljön på olika sätt och vilka ämnen konstgräset innehåller som gör att det inte är miljövänligt. Metoden för detta arbete var litteraturstudie samt intervjuer. I litteraturstudien presenteras konstgräsets historia genom tiderna samt kortfattat om dess uppbyggnad. Litteraturstudien tar upp miljöaspekter kring fyllnadsmaterialet granulat i konstgräs, det visar sig att granulat är mikroplast och sprider sig till miljön. Litteraturstudien visar även att temperaturen hos konstgräs i jämförelse med naturligt gräs har en stor skillnad. Utifrån detta kan den ökade användningen av konstgräs inverka negativt på städers kylningsförmåga. Resultat från litteraturstudien visar att granulat från konstgräs hamnar i bland annat vattendrag, och denna spridning är den största orsaken till konstgräsets negativa miljöpåverkan. Resultat från de olika intervjuerna samt litteraturstudien visade att slitage på parker är den främsta orsaken till att konstgräs används nuförtiden. Tillgänglighet och säkerhet är även andra orsaker till att konstgräs är ett alternativ i lekplatser då konstgräs är ett godkänt underlag som uppfyller tillgänglighetskraven. I diskussionen läggs det fram att slitage, tillgänglighet och säkerhet är de tre främsta anledningarna till att konstgräs används som ett alternativ till den naturliga gräsmattan.

The purpose of this work was to problematize why the use of artificial grass has increased in mainly parks and playgrounds. The work even takes up how the artificial grass affects the environment in different ways and which substances the artificial grass contains that makes it not environmentally friendly. The method for this work was literature study and interviews. In the literature study, the history behind the artificial grass through the time is presented and briefly about its construction. The literature study addresses environmental aspects of the filling material granules in artificial turf, it turns out that granules are microplastics and spread to the environment. The literature study also shows that the temperature of artificial turf compared to natural grass has a big difference. Based on this, the increased use of artificial turf can adversely affect the cooling capacity of cities. The results of the literature study show that granules from artificial turf end up in, among other things, watercourses, and this spread is the biggest cause of the artificial turf's negative environmental impact. Results from the various interviewees and the literature study showed that wear on parks is the main reason why artificial turf is used today. Accessibility and safety are also other reasons why artificial turf is an alternative in playgrounds since artificial grass is an approved base that meets the accessibility requirements. In the discussion, it is stated that wear, accessibility and safety are the three main reasons why artificial grass is used as an alternative to the natural lawn.
