Abstract

Social hållbarhet är en av tre aspekter inom begreppet hållbar utveckling. Flera forskare menar dock att den sociala hållbarheten i stadsplaneringssammanhang ofta bortprioriteras till förmån för de andra två aspekterna, ekonomisk och ekologisk hållbarhet. Detta kan ha orsaker som att begreppet social hållbarhet har många definitioner och därför upplevs som abstrakt och svårt att ta till sig eller tillämpa. Utifrån syftet att diskutera social hållbarhet ur landskapsarkitektens perspektiv undersöks i det här arbetet om Uppsala kommuns arbete med social hållbarhet är förankrat i vetenskap och teori. Arbetet har utförts genom att utifrån en litteraturstudie ta fram en granskningsmall vilken senare använts i en dokumentgranskning av Uppsala kommuns dokument som berör stadsdelen Rosendal. Resultatet visar att majoriteten av de begrepp som teorin menar ingår i social hållbarhet nämns i dokument specifikt för Rosendal eller i Uppsala kommuns generella dokument. Ofta nämns dock begreppen delvis eller indirekt och arbetet handlar sällan uttalat om social hållbarhet. Mer forskning, som kan leda till fler arbetsmetoder och ramar, skulle behövas för att kunna konkretisera begreppet.

Social sustainability is one of three aspects within the concept of sustainable development. Researchers argue that planners do not prioritise the social aspect, in favor of the other two aspects economic and ecological sustainability. This could be explained by reasons such as that the concept has many definitions and is therefore perceived as abstract and difficult to accept or apply. Based on the purpose of this thesis, which is discussing social sustainability from a landscape architect's perspective, this work investigates whether Uppsala municipality's work on social sustainability is rooted in research and theory. The work has been performed in several steps, first by drawing up an analysis template based on a literature study, which later was used in a document review of Uppsala municipality's documents concerning the district of Rosendal. The result shows that the majority of the concepts that, according to research and theory, are included in social sustainability are mentioned in documents specifically for Rosendal or in the general documents of Uppsala municipality. However, the concepts are often mentioned indirectly and the work rarely deals with social sustainability. More research, which can lead to more working methods and frameworks, would be needed to be able to concretise the concept.
