Abstract

Rapporten huvudtema är engagemang, vad som påverkar människors engagemang i olika riktningar samt huruvida digital teknik kan bidra till ökat engagemang. Rapporten bygger på ett samarbete med LRF, Lantbrukarnas riksförbund, som har för avseendet att öka medlemsaktiviteten och medlemmarnas inflytande i organisationen. Empirin utgörs av intervjuer med representanter från en ungdomsgrupp och en lokalavdelning inom LRF. Intervjuerna visar att sociala aspekter är en grundläggande drivkraft för de förtroendevaldas engagemang, liksom viljan att påverka samt viljan att lära känna människor i sin omgivning. Tidsbrist och färre heltidsarbetande lantbrukare är företeelser som påverkar engagemanget i negativ riktning. Det visar sig även att det finns ofördelaktiga attityder hos de förtroendevalda och deras omgivning, till exempel anses lokalgrupperna endast vara till för äldre eller för personer med en stark lantbruksanknytning. Det framkommer att digital teknik i viss mån kan bidra till ett ökat medlemsinflytande medan de fysiska träffarna har större betydelse för ett uthålligt engagemang. Slutsatserna visar att det finns ett glapp mellan LRF:s ledning och medlemmar. Informanterna upplever bland annat att de är dåligt insatta i LRF:s arbete viket kan påverka deras engagemang i en negativ riktning. Ett ökat informationsflöde mellan ledning och medlem samt nya, innovativa påverkanssätt ses vara en nyckel för ökat engagemang, varpå digital teknik kan komma till användning.

The main purpose of this report is to examine how people’s commitment is affected in different ways and if new technology could be used as a tool to increase commitment. The research for this report was developed together with LRF, The Federation of Swedish Farmers as they look to increase member activity and participation within the organisation. The empirical data is based on interviews with two groups of trustees, youths and adults. Social aspects such as fellowship and security, the willingness to do good and the opportunity to get to know your community turn out to be significant motivational factors for commitment. Lack of time and fewer full-time working farmers seem to be key factors affecting commitment in a negative way. There are also indications that unfavourable attitudes among the trustees and their surroundings affect commitment, for example that LRF is only for those who are older or for those who actively work within the agricultural sector. New technology might be helpful to increase member activity while face to face meetings are better suited to sustain people’s commitment over time. The conclusion indicates that there is a significant gap between the members and the board of LRF. The participant's feedback to date strongly suggests a lack of knowledge and understanding about the organisation and its goals, which in turn also may affect their commitment in a negative manner. Key issues for LRF to address include deciding how to bridge the gap between the board and the members as well as to identify new innovative ways for member participation, where the introduction of new technology could be a useful tool.
