Abstract

Att planera för - och genomföra - tillgänglighetsåtgärder för friluftsliv i skyddade natur är något som Naturvårdsverket och Länsstyrelserna arbetar aktivt med. En viktig uppgift är att ta hänsyn till platsen och inte låta platsens utseende förvanskas. Ett begrepp som ofta nämns är att anordningar ska smälta in i omgivningen. Hela 80 procent av människans informationsintag kommer från visuella upplevelser och dessa är starkt kopplade till färg. Upplevelsen av naturens färger är som mest positiva under sommaren när färgerna är som starkast.

Det här examensarbetets syfte är att föreslå en gestaltning för Kallgatburg naturreservat på norra Gotland som ökar tillgängligheten i hela reservatet, under en längre tid på året, med hjälp av friluftsanordningar. Syftet med arbetet är också att undersöka hur färgupplevelser i naturen och färgmaterial kan användas för att få friluftsanordningar att smälta in med sin omgivning och bidra till en positiv upplevelse för besökare under en större del av året. Genom att undersöka färgupplevelser och färgmaterial är syftet även att bidra till ökad förståelse för färg och ge exempel på hur landskapsarkitekter kan använda naturens färgpalett inom gestaltning.

Gestaltningsprocessen har varit arbetets metod och inleddes med en förstudie i form platsbesök, kartstudier och litteraturstudier. Syftet var att inventera och analysera Kallgatburg utifrån olika aspekter såsom målpunkter, tillgänglighet och naturkaraktärer. Gestaltningsprocessen fortlöpte med skisser som ledde fram till ett gestaltningsförslag.

Gestaltningsförslaget bygger på befintlig struktur i Kallgatburg. Nya målpunkter och nya friluftsanordningar såsom vindskydd och däckspänger placeras på utvalda platser i skog och skogsbryn. I reservatets södra del skapas en rastplats med övernattningsstugor. Friluftsanordningarna färgsätts med Kallgatburgs färgpalett - ett urval av kulörer ur Natural Colour System, NCS, som baseras på karaktäristiska arter i Kallgatburg. Paletten bryts i linoljefärg som appliceras på anordningarna genom stänkmålning.

Förslaget ökar tillgängligheten i hela reservatet och tar hänsyn till platsen genom att nya anordningar placeras i områdets minst känsliga delar. Förslaget vill påvisa att färgupplevelser från naturen kan användas för att färgsätta anordningar så att förståelsen för naturmiljön ökar samtidigt som friluftsanordningar smälter in i omgivningen. För att säkert kunna svara på frågan om förslaget smälter in med omgivningen behövs fler undersökningar göras. Materialprov med färgsättningen bör tas fram och testas på plats under olika delar av året. Gestaltningsförslaget, utan färgsättning, med endast råmaterialet trä, ökar tillgängligheten i reservatet och uppfyller Länsstyrelsens kravställningar i deras gestaltningsprogram. Förslaget med färgsättningskonceptet ger ett exempel på hur landskapsarkitekter kan använda färgupplevelser och färgmaterial vid gestaltning.

The Swedish Environmental Protection Agency and the County Administrative Boards puts great importance on planning for, and implementing, accessibility measures for outdoor life in protected nature areas. One goal is to treat nature with caution and not letting the site's appearance become distorted. A common expression for the overall experience is that the design should blend in with the surrounding. 80 percent of human information intake comes from our visual perception and the visual experience of a landscape is strongly connected to colour. Nature’s colours give us positive emotions and are a great resource in landscape architecture.

This thesis project in landscape architecture aims to propose a design for Kallgatburg nature reserve that increase accessibility in the nature reserve, for a longer period of the year, using outdoor facilities. The purpose is also to investigate how perception of colour together with paint can be used to get outdoor facilities to blend in with the surroundings and at the same time increase visitors understanding of the sites nature values. By examining nature's colour palette, colour experiences and paint, this thesis also aims to contribute to an increased understanding of the concept of colour and give an example of how landscape architects can use nature’s colour palette in their work.

The method for this thesis project was the Design process which began with inventory and analysis through site visits, map studies and literature studies. The analysed aspects were; accessibility, outdoor life, where to add outdoor facilities to make a minimum interference and what nature characters existed in Kallgatburg. The design process continued with sketches in different techniques that led to a proposal.

The proposal is based on Kallgatburg’s existing structure. New outdoor facilities; footbridges, windshields, porticos, overnight cabins, signs and furniture creates new target points and a more accessible and usable site for visitors. The outdoor facilities are painted with pigmented linseed oil in a splash pattern using several colours measured from Kallgatburg's species using the Natural Colour System.

The proposal increases accessibility throughout Kallgatburg and take the site’s values into account. The proposal aims to show that colour experiences from the site can be used in the design to increase visitors understanding of nature values while outdoor facilities blend into its surroundings. To be able to answer the question if the proposed colour concept fulfils its purpose more studies are needed. Material samples of the colour concept must be produced and tested on site during different parts of the year. The design proposal, without the use of pigmented linseed oil meets the demands in the County Administrative Board's design program but the use of colours fulfils the purpose to give an example of how landscape architects can use colour experiences and colour materials in their design work.
