Abstract

I en tid av ökat stillasittande får barns utemiljöer allt större betydelse för deras fysiska och psykiska utveckling. Hur barns utemiljöer utformas ligger i relation med hur de används. Om användarna själva får vara med och påverka gestaltningen ökar chansen att platsen lever upp till användarnas behov. Detta projekt redovisar arbetet i den samverkansprocess som genomförts i gestaltningen och utvärderingen av, vad som nu kallas, Bredaryds koordinationsbana, vilket är en plats som ska inspirera barn till fysisk aktivitet.

I planeringen av samverkansprocessen lät jag mig själv inspireras av andra projekt där barn involverats i gestaltningsprocesser. Jag tog del av litteratur om delaktighet som Sherry Arnsteins delaktighetsstege och Sveriges Kommuner och Länstings omarbetade version “Delaktighetstrappan”. Ytterligare inspiration till utformningen av min samverkansprocess har hämtats ur metoderna REBUS och GÅTUR.

Klass fyra i Bredaryds grundskola bjöds in för att delta i projektet och ge sina idéer om hur man skapar en plats som inspirerar till fysisk aktivitet. Under våren 2018 hölls fem stycken workshops tillsammans med eleverna i fjärdeklassen. Workshopparna innehöll aktiviteter som platsinventering och analys, skissande och modellering och därtill även konstruktion av själva anläggningen. Slutligen hölls en utvärderingsworkshop för att bedöma resultatet av samverkansprocessen samt samarbetet mellan mig och barnen. I utvärderingen konstaterades att barnen var nöjda både med anläggningen som skapats och med samarbetet med mig som landskapsarkitekt.

Genom detta projekt har jag lärt mig om hur man planerar, genomför och utvärderar en samverkansprocess med barn. Min strävan efter en hög deltagandegrad har gjort att barnens idéer och tankar från tidigt skede präglat gestaltningsprocessen och därmed tydligt syns i den slutgiltiga gestaltningen.

Jag har under arbetet gjort iakttagelser om att vissa individers koncentrationsförmåga varit högre vid praktiskt arbete som genomförts utomhus, kontra teoretiskt arbete inomhus. Denna iakttagelse ligger i linje med Faskungers slutsatser om ökad koncentrationsförmåga vid utomhuspedagogik. Vikten av utomhusvistelse i arbetet stöds också i Nordins konstaterande om att barn upplever sin omgivning bäst vid direkt kontakt med den vuxne samt med platsen. En av mina slutsatser i arbetet är därför att, varierande uppgifter och arbetsmiljöer leder till en mer inkluderande samverkansprocess.

The importance of children's outdoor environments which affects their physical and mental development is increasing in line with the decrease in physical movement. The design of children's outdoor environments determines how they are used. If users themselves are allowed to influence the design of their environments, the chances are that the site meets the needs of users. This project presents the work of the collaborative process implemented in the design and evaluation of what is now called Bredaryd's coordination course, which is a place that is supposed to inspire children to physical activity.

In the planning phase of the collaborative process, I let myself be inspired by other projects where children had been involved in design processes. I studied literature on participation such as Sherry Arnstein's “Ladder of participation” and the Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions revised version "Stairs of participation". Further inspiration for the design of my collaborative process has been obtained from the methods REBUS and GÅTUR.

Grade four from Bredaryd's elementary school was invited to participate in the project and give their ideas on how to create a place for physical activity. During the spring of 2018 five workshops were held together with the fourth grade pupils. The workshops included activities such as site inventory and analysis, sketching and modeling and also physical construction of the facility itself. Finally, an evaluation workshop was held to assess the outcome of the collaborative process and the cooperation between me and the children. The evaluation found that the children were satisfied both with the created facility and the cooperation with me as a landscape architect.

Through this project, I have learnt how to plan, implement and evaluate a collaborative process with children. My ambition of a high degree of participation, has ensured that the ideas and thoughts of the children, from an early stage in the project, have characterized the design process and therefor are clearly visible in the final form.

During the work I have made observations that the level of concentration of some individuals has been higher in practical work carried out outdoors, versus indoor theoretical work. This observation goes in line with Faskunger's conclusions of increasing levels of concentration in outdoor education. The importance of outdoor work is also supported in Nordin's findings, that children experience their surroundings best in direct contact with the adult as well as with the place itself. One of my conclusions in this thesis is therefore that, varying tasks and working environments lead to a more inclusive collaborative process.
