Abstract

Design handlar om estetik samt funktion och denna studie syftar till att undersöka hur Motalas södra parkstråk kan utvecklas för att stimulera social interaktion. Arbetet identifierar designstrategier och teorier baserat på ett vetenskapligt index utformat av Vikas Metha (2014) om hur man utvärderar ett offentligt rum. Studien handlar om ett strandstråk centralt i Motala sjöstad, som i dagsläget mestadels används som passage. Området är ganska nedslitet och ointressant men har närkontakt med Vättern, som ligger bara några meter bort. En enkel gång- och cykelväg löper längs stråket som kantas av några småhus och ett par småindustrier inåt landsidan. Den metod som använts är en litteraturstudie som identifierar hur kvaliteten på en offentlig plats kan utvecklas samt hur området kan förnyas för att öka sociala interaktioner. Metoden applicerades på parkstråket och resultatet visar på en kvalitetshöjning av området. Genom förnyelse kan rummet utvecklas då stråket har stor estetisk och rekreativ potential vid stranden av Vättern och med vacker utsikt mot hamn, kaj och Storvättern. Mitt förslag till förnyelse tillför området ny användning samt ökar stråkets attraktion väsentligt. Detta kommer att öka den sociala interaktionen och ge motalaborna en ny plats att söka sig till samtidigt som området anknyts bättre till centrum.

Design is about aesthetics and function and this study aims at investigating how Motala's shoreline promenade can be developed to stimulate social interaction. The work identifies design strategies and theories based on a scientific index created by Vikas Metha (2014) on how to evaluate a public space. This study is about a park centrally located in Motala, which is currently mostly used as a passage. The area is run down and uninteresting but has close contact with lake Vättern, which is just a few meters away. A simple walking and cycling path runs along the shoreline promenade that is bordered by some small houses and a few small industries opposite the sea board. The method used is a literature study that identifies how the quality of a public place can develop and how the area can be renewed to enhance social interactions. The method was applied to the park area and the result shows a quality increase in the area. By renewal, the space can be developed as the shoreline promenade has great aesthetic and recreational potential with beautiful views to the harbor, quayside and Vättern. My proposal for renewal adds new uses to the area and increases the attraction of the shoreline promenade. This will increase social interaction and give residents a new place to search for, while the area is better connected to the center.
