Abstract

Aktivitet och möten är en viktig del i det urbana livet och tillfälliga strukturer kan stimulera detta och bidra till rika stadsrum. Österplan i Uppsala är ett centralt beläget parkstråk vars potential till ett aktivt stadsrum är outnyttjad. Uppsatsens syfte är att undersöka hur temporär landskapsarkitektur kan användas som ett medel för att bidra till ökad aktivitet på en plats som tidigare varit underutnyttjad. Resultatet från en litteraturgenomgång visar att faktorer som bidrar till att människor vistas i offentliga rum är bland annat rumsliga kvaliteter, intryck som stimulerar flera sinnen och möjlighet att sitta. Studie av referensprojekt visade att de hade en tydlig helhetsbild och det fanns en lekfullhet i gestaltningen. Inventering och analys av Österplan och förstudiens resultat ledde fram till en gestaltningsidé som kontrasterar mot omgivningen och skapar sittmöjligheter och sociala situationer. Många av de faktorer som visade sig viktiga är öppna för tolkning och avvägningar för hur de applicerades i gestaltningsförslaget gjordes för att uppnå en helhet och balans. Med grund i dessa faktorer antas gestaltningen bidra till ökad aktivitet och möten på platsen. Resultatet av arbetet är ett förslag för en temporär gestaltning för Österplan, men även en djupare insikt i skillnaderna med att jobba med ett temporärt projekt jämfört med ett permanent. Den temporära aspekten bidrog med ett friare arbetssätt och den kortare varaktigheten gör att det finns mer spelrum för att prova annorlunda lösningar.

Human activity and encounters in the urban environment is an important part in the urban life, which can be stimulated with the use of temporary structures. Österplan is a park located in the center of Uppsala, which is missing involving activities for visitors and the potential of the place as an active urban environment is not fully used. This essay focuses on how temporary landscape architecture can be used as a tool to stimulate increased activity for places which previously have been scarcely visited. A literature review showed that spatial qualities, impressions that stimulate several senses and urban furniture, are some of the factors which inflict human activity in urban places. Study of reference projects concludes them to have coherence and a cheerful attitude in the design. Site inventory and analysis of Österplan together with the result of the literature review conclude in a design that contrasts the surrounding environment while creating the possibility to sit down and stimulate social situations. Many of the important factors were found to be subjective and re-evaluated in order to preserve coherence and balance in the design. The design is presumed to stimulate increased activity and social encounters, based on the conclusions of the literature review. The research resulted in a proposal for temporary design for Österplan, but also in a deeper insight in the differences of working with a temporary project compared to a permanent. The ephemeral aspect contributes with a flexible work process and unlocks brave and peculiar solutions.
