Abstract

Detta arbete är ett exempel på hur man kan arbeta med lekmiljöer i natur för barn. Syftet var att gestalta ett utvecklingsförslag för en naturlekplats med hjälp av kunskap om vad som utgör en god lekmiljö. För att uppnå detta användes tre olika metoder. Metoderna applicerades på Tybblekullen i Örebro kommun, ett naturområde som under år 2018 ska utvecklas för naturlek. Målet är att detta arbete ska vara en inspiration för Örebro kommuns men även för andra landskapsarkitekter och planerare som arbetar med barns miljöer.

De använda metoderna är en litteraturgenomgång, en platsstudie i tre delar och en skissprocess. Genom dessa delar kunde kunskap om barns lek, Tybblekullens fysiska förutsättningar och användning och information om dess styrkor och svagheter insamlas. Detta gav arbetet en grundstruktur. Skissprocessen har varit ett sätt att vidareutveckla informationen och forma denna grundstruktur till ett förslag. Metoden mynnade ut i ett utvecklingsprogram för Tybblekullen där fokus ligger på att ta vara på det naturen erbjuder, bjuda in till platsen och skapa möjligheter för barn att vara kreativa och skapa egna lekmiljöer.

För att hålla samman gestaltningen skapades ett koncept inspirerat från litteraturstudien kallat “en skog, en äng, en vik”. Konceptets tre delar bidrar med en variation av olika material och förutsättningar för att uppnå utvecklingsmålen för Tybblekullens utveckling och stötta och inspirera barnen till lek. Genom utvecklingsförslaget stärks naturmiljön på Tybblekullen och bjuder in barnen till fri lek på egna villkor.

Arbetet avslutas med ett reflekterande avsnitt där bland annat de olika perspektiv som påverkat Tybblekullens utveckling diskuteras. Där lyfts skillnaden mellan det vuxna perspektivet och barnperspektivet och hur dessa två kan vara mycket olika men samtidigt är beroende av varandra. Även svårigheterna med att få in barnperspektivet i gestaltningsprocessen diskuteras och vikten av detta i utvecklingen av lekmiljöer understryks. Avslutningsvis reflekteras kring Tybblekullens fortsatta utveckling och idéer för nya angreppssätt i utvecklingen av lekmiljöer. En idé om att skapa levande gestaltningar där barn och andra besökare genom sin lek och användning själva är med och formar en plats väcks till liv. Resultatavsnittet knyts ihop med förhoppningen om att detta arbete skall inspirera andra till ett annorlunda arbetssätt kring barns lekmiljöer i framtiden.

This thesis shows how to create requisites and qualities for children’s play in nature. The result is a development proposal for a nature based playground built on research and knowledge of what constitutes a good play environment. To achieve this, three different methods were used. The methods were applied to the Tybble Hill in Örebro, Sweden. Tybble Hill (Tybblekullen in Swedish) is a nature area that is planned to be developed for play in 2018 by the municipality of Örebro.

The methods used in this work are a literature review, a place study and a sketching process. The place study included an inventory, an evaluation of the site as a playground and two playdates on the site to learn more about how the Tybble Hill’s physical contitions and how they affect the quality of play. The sketching process was a way to transform the empiric data into a development proposal. Through these steps knowledge about children's play, the Tybble Hill’s spatial conditions, people’s use and information about strengths and weaknesses of the site were gathered. The chosen methods also gave the thesis a basic structure that resulted in a design program for the development of Tybble Hill, focused on keeping existing nature qualities, inviting people to the site and creating opportunities for children to play and also create their own play environments.

In order to put together the design, a concept was created inspired by the literature study called "A Forest, a Meadow, a Bay". The three parts of the concept contribute to a variety of different materials and requisites for achieving the goals for Tybble Hill's further development, to support and to inspire children’s play. The development proposal strengthens the qualities of Tybble Hill as a nature environment and will hopefully invite the children to free play in their own terms.

The final discussion reflects on various perspectives that affect the future development of the Tybble Hill where the differences between the adult-perspective and the child-perspective on play and playgrounds are highlighted and also in what way these perspectives are dependent on each other. The difficulties for a landscape architect to integrate a child centred perspective into the design process are also discussed as well as the importance for the profession to prioritize this in development projects of this kind. Finally, the Tybble Hill’s future development and ideas for new approaches in the development of outdoor play environments are reflected upon.

The aim with this thesis is to inspire stakeholders in Örebro Municipality as well as landscape architects and planners who work with children's environments elsewhere. This thesis should be seen as a source of inspiration to new approaches and working methods to create and promote suitable outdoor environments for nature-based play.
