Abstract

Vi blir påverkade av vad vi läser och upplever, och studier visar att hur vår relation till natur ser ut grundläggs tidigt i livet. I den här uppsatsen undersöks hur skogen framställs i illustrationerna från svenska barnböcker. Att se om det finns något samband i hur kontakten med skogen är och har varit i Sverige. Två svenska böcker valdes ut: Tomtebobarnen av Elsa Beskow och Gittan och gråvargarna av Pija Lindenbaum. I bakgrunden står det om hur relationen till skogen har sett ut rent historiskt i Sverige, vilken relation barn har till natur samt hur barnboksutvecklingen har sett
ut i Sverige. Analysen bestod av Experimental Landscape Analysis (ELA). Illustrationerna analyserades med metoden ELA och visas i resultatdelen. Det är en analysmetod där man utgår från en person eller karaktär och lever sig in i dess uppfattning av omvärlden. Man tittar på hur relationen mellan människor och dess omgivning ser ut och upplevs. I diskussionsdelen förs ett resonemang kring resultatet av analysen samt bakgrunden. Det visar att karaktärerna i böckerna upplever känslor i skogen som man kan koppla samman med hur vi i Sverige har sett på skogen genom århundradena. Böckerna följde även de trender som gick i samhället när de skrevs.

We are influenced by what we read and experience, and studies show our relationship with nature is founded early in life. This paper examines how the forest is presented in illustrations from Swedish children’s books. To see if there is any connection between how the illustrations present the forest, and how the relationship between Sweden and the forest are and has been through the centuries.
Two Swedish books were selected: Children of the Forest by Elsa Beskow and Bridget and the Grey Wolves by Pija Lindenbaum. In the background you will read about how the relationship with the forest has been through the history of Sweden, what kind of relationship the children have with nature and how the children's book development has been in Sweden. The analysis consisted of Experiential Landscape Analysis (ELA). The illustrations were analysed using ELA method and are displayed in the results section. This is an analytical method in which you use a specific person or character to imagine their views and interpretations of their surroundings. You look at how the relationship between people and their surroundings unfold and perceive. The discussion section presents reasoning about the results of the analysis as well as the literature studies. It shows that the characters in the books experience feelings in the forest that can be linked to how we in Sweden have looked upon the forest over the centuries. The books also followed the trends that went into society when they were written.
