Abstract

Förtätningen av de större städerna är en följd av den ökade efterfrågan på bostäder
idag. Detta leder i sin tur till fler individer per ytenhet offentlig mark. De offentliga
ytorna är platser för umgänge och rekreativ aktivitet för människorna i staden.
Samtidigt ställs det krav i stadsplaneringen att invånare ska ha tillgång till
kvalitativa offentliga ytor för ökad hälsa och välbefinnande. En växande global
trend är att i takt med förtätningen nyttja platser som tidigare inte bidragit till de
offentliga vistelseytorna i staden, till exempel stadens takytor. Anläggningen av
offentlig vistelseyta på tak kan ses i ett regionalt perspektiv i Sverige där
kommuner och myndigheter föreslagit att taket kan vara en lösning i bristen på
parkmark. Fokus i detta arbete ligger på att identifiera hur taket fungerar som
vistelseyta och även ge kunskaper om vilken typ av aktivitet som sker i takparken.
Utgångspunkten är en studie av Emporia takpark i Malmö, en prisbelönt park som
är en av de största i Sverige och som ligger på topplistan av större takparker i
världen. Resultatet i arbetet visar att det finns tydliga kopplingar mellan olika typer
av aktiviteter och faktorer som vindförhållanden, placering av sittytor samt utsikt.
Analys och diskussion utgår från Jan Gehls teorier om aktivitet i stadsrum och
takparkens kvaliteter utvärderas mot den vision som formulerats av takparkens
arkitekter samt målbild för park och aktivitet i staden enligt Malmö kommun.

The densification of the larger cities is due to the increased demand for housing
today. This in turn leads to more individuals per surface area of public land which,
among other things, is a place of intercourse and recreational activity for the people
in the city. Simultaneously, urban planning requires urban residents to have access
to these qualitative areas for increased health and well-being. In line with the
densification, a growing trend in the world is making use of places that previously
did not contribute as public places in the city, for example the rooftops. The
construction of public spaces on roofs can be seen regionally in Sweden where
municipalities and authorities have proposed the roofs as a solution in the lack of
parkland. The aim of this Bachelor’s thesis is to identify how the roof serves as a
living space and also to provide an insight into what kind of activity that takes
place on roof parks. This work is based on Emporia Roof Park in Malmö, an
award-winning park, one of the largest in Sweden and also on the top list of major
roof parks in the world. The results in this work show that there are clear
connections between different types of activity and factors such as wind conditions,
seating positions and views. This is discussed based on theories of activity of Jan
Gehl and compared with the planners’ vision of the roof park as well as the vision
for park and activity in the city according to Malmö Municipality.
