Abstract

Undersökningen handlar om hur ungdomar använder staden. Jag ville undersöka hur ungdomar använder sig av det offentliga rummet när det inte är fysisk aktivitet som är målet. För att göra det har jag undersökt Sergels torg, en plats i centrala Stockholm, där ungdomar samlas, för att undersöka hur utformningen är kopplad till användningen. Vad är det ungdomar söker i den offentliga miljön och hur kan vi som landskapsarkitekter tillgodose det behovet. Undersökningen
gjordes genom observationer av ungdomars användning av torget och genom intervjuer där ungdomar själva berättar om vad det är med torget som gör att de vill använda det.

Observationerna och intervjuerna visar hur torget används och vilka aktiviteter som äger rum. Studien visar även på ett antal kvalitéer som torget har som man kan ta i beaktande när man planerar en plats för ungdomar.

This report aims to examine how young people use the public space when physical activity is not the goal. To do that I have examined Sergels Torg, a place in central Stockholm where young people gather, to try to understand how the design is associated with the usage. What is it that young people are looking for in the public environment and how can we as landscape architects address this need.
The survey is conducted through observations of how young people is using the square and through interviews where young people talk about what it is with the square that makes them want to use it.

The observations and interviews show how the square is used and what activities that are taking place. The study also shows the different qualities of this specific square, which could be taken into consideration when planning places
for young people.
