Abstract

I dagsläget pågår en diskussion för hur man ska uppnå sina åtaganden gentemot EU:s 2020 klimatmål. Genom dessa klimatmål har industrier som inte handlar med utsläppsrätter ett ansvar för att sänka sina klimatutsläpp. Skogsnäringen är en av de industrier som påverkas.

Genom att innovera med skogsråvara har nya företag etablerats på den miljöorienterade marknaden. Ett av dessa företag är BioEndev. BioEndev har startat en utveckling av en process som ska vidareförädla skoglig biomassa till ett pelleterad och torrefierat biobränsle. Vår studie undersöker dels hur deras innovationsprocess har sett ut hittills och dels hur deras samarbetsnätverk av aktörer har skapats. Vi har valt att beakta samarbetsnätverket för ett innovationssystem.

I syfte att samla data kring innovationsprocessen och -systemet valdes representanter med relevant erfarenhet från innoveringssamarbetet för kvalitativa intervjuer. Från respondenternas svar redovisar vi ett resultat i form av en beskrivande och analyserande bild av innovationsprocessen och innovationssystemet.

Resultatet visade på att universitetsforskare varit ansvariga för att starta upp och driva innovationsprocessen. Forskarrespondenterna upplevde att demokratiska idéskapande diskussioner, och att ha kontroll över kärnan i utvecklingsprocessen har varit viktiga faktorer för innovationsprocessen. Gällande innovationssystemet tog respondenter upp att det viktiga låg i att få ut ett mervärde, ha transparens i samarbetet samt ha förståelse för varandras roll och mål. Brister i kommunikation, tids- och ekonomisk planering har beskrivits som de mest återkommande problemen. Det fanns även delade åsikter i fall fördelningen av ansvarsroller varit i projektets bästa intresse. För investering och finansiering var endast offentliga aktörer villiga att bidra stora summor pengar i det skede innovationsprocessen befann sig i.

In Europe there is a discussion about what measures that are needed to reach the EU 2020 climate goals. To reach this goal, "non-emission trading" corporations have a responsibility to lower their emission of greenhouse gases. One of the affected industries is the forest industry.

By innovating in forest products new companies have emerged in the environmentally-friendly market sector. One of these companies is BioEndev. BioEndev has started a process to develop an industrial process that will refine basic forest products to a product called torrefied and pelleted biomass. Our study examined how their innovation process has progressed and how they have formed collaborative networks of involved operators, in what we defined as an innovation system.

To collect data on the innovation process and the innovation system, representatives with relevant experience from the innovation collaboration were chosen for qualitative interviews. The respondents' answers were used to give a descriptive and analytical picture of the innovation process and the system.

The result showed that university researchers had been responsible for starting and operating the innovation process. The researcher respondents experienced that democratic idea creating discussions, and the control over the core development processes have been important factors for the innovation process. Respondents raised surplus values, transparency and an understanding of each other’s roles and goals as important factors regarding the innovation system. Flaws in communication, time and economic planning has been described as the most recurrent problems. There were also different opinions concerning the areas of responsibility. The respondents did not agree that the areas of responsibility had distributed for the best common cause. Results also showed that the most significant investments and financial support came from the public operators in the innovation process current state.
