Abstract

Detta arbete handlar om odling av trädgårdsblåbär. Trädgårdsblåbär är blåbär som odlas. Dit räknas Vaccinium corymbosum, amerikanskt blåbär och hybridblåbär, som är korsningar mellan V. corymbosum och Vaccinium angustifolium, kanadensiskt blåbär, in. Vaccinium corymbosum och hybridblåbär odlas i hela världen, men främst i Nordamerika. Vaccinium angustifolium odlas i östra delarna av Kanada och nordöstra delar av USA. Dessa odlingar grundar sig på naturliga bestånd som sköts och skördas. Vaccinium myrtillus, europeiskt blåbär, odlas inte i någon form i Sverige, utan växer vilt i skogarna i de norra delarna av Europa och Asien, främst i Norden och Ryssland. Försöksodlingar finns i Danmark och Norge där man undersöker hur man bäst etablerar V. myrtillus, med plantering eller att sköta vilda bestånd.
Blåbär innehåller många bra näringsämnen och antioxidanter som har positiv effekt på synen och håller dig frisk. Dess nyttighet gjort att blåbär är i ropet och hälsotidningar skriver oftast gott om detta bär.
Syftet med detta arbete är att visa vilka arter av trädgårdsblåbär som är lämpliga för yrkesmässig odling i Sverige, samt ge en inblick i vad odlarna efterfrågar och väljer. I arbetet utreds även om V. myrtillus går att odla i yrkesmässig odling i Sverige. Skillnader mellan odlingstekniker och bärkvalitet hos blåbärsarterna utreds.
Ett frågeformulär skickades ut till nio blåbärsodlare i Sverige, varav sju svarade. Resultatet av frågeformuläret gav att det är främst V. corymbosum och hybridblåbär som odlarna väljer och föredrar. De sorter som angavs som mest populära var ”Reka”, ”Duke” och ”Emil”. För odlarnas del var inte V. myrtillus eller V. angustifolium något man efterfrågade, på grund av buskens höjd, då dessa arter inte blir högre än 40cm.
Detta arbete har visat att det som efterfrågas och är mest lämpad för odling i Sverige är V. corymbosum och hybridblåbär.

This is a study about the cultivation of blueberries. The most common cultivated blueberries are Vaccinium corymbosum (highbush blueberry) and half-high blueberries, which are crosses between Vaccinium corymbosum and Vaccinium angustifolium (lowbush blueberry). Vaccinium corymbosum and different hybrids of blueberries are grown all over the world, but mainly in North America. Vaccinium angustifolium is grown in the eastern parts of Canada and northeast of USA. Vaccinium myrtillus (bilberry) is not cultivated at all and grows wild in the forests of the northern parts of Europe and Asia. These species are grown in natural habitats where they are managed and harvested. It is especially prominent in Scandinavia and Russia. There are trial plantations located in Denmark and Norway, where they investigate how V. myrtillus is best established. This is done through planting or by managing the natural habitat.
Blueberries are known to be healthy. Blueberries contains many nutrients and antioxidants that can have a positive effect on vision and thus keep you healthy.
The aim of this study is to show which species of blueberries are suitable for commercial cultivation in Sweden, as well as giving an insight into what farmers want and choose. The study also investigated if V. myrtillus is suitable for commercial cultivation in Sweden. A comparison between the differences in cultivation and the quality of the berry is done between the species.
A questionnaire was sent out to nine blueberry growers in Sweden, where seven out of nine answered. The results of the questionnaire show that it is mainly V. corymbosum and blueberry hybrids that growers choose and therefore prefer. The varieties that were most popular were “Reka”, “Duke” and “Emil”. When the growers were asked if they would choose some other species like V. myrtillus or V. angustifolium, the answer was almost always no. This is because these blueberry species are lowbush and not suitable for manual labour or hand-picking.
This study has shown that it is V. corymbosum and half-high blueberries that are mostly in demand and suitable for cultivation in Sweden.
