Abstract

Den här studien tar upp betydelsen av stationen i landsbygdssamhället Berga i Högsby kommun, Småland. Jag har fokuserat på vad stationen har betytt för invånarna historiskt samt vad den betyder idag. Jag har även undersökt hur stationen påverkar landsbygdsutvecklingen i Berga. Syftet med studien är att ta reda på hur stationens betydelse har förändrats över tid. Från det att järnvägen byggdes 1897 till det att Kustpilen invigdes 1996 räknas till ”dåtid” och från 1996 fram tills idag räknas som ”nutid”.
Det empiriska materialet har samlats in genom observationer av stationsområdet, intervjuer med fyra slumpvis utvalda personer samt två nyckelinformanter och läsning av relevant litteratur.
Utifrån olika teorier kring exempelvis platsspecifik landsbygdsutveckling, de unika egenskaperna hos den lokala historian samt tidigare forskning kring stationens och järnvägens roll för utveckling av landsbygden har jag diskuterat betydelsen av Berga station.
Studien visar att tillbaka i tiden så var stationen i Berga en mötesplats för invånarna. Järnvägen gav också en känsla av kontakt med omvärlden och underlättade för folket att resa runt i landet. Idag har stationen fortfarande stor betydelse och stationen har blivit Bergas varumärke utåt. Att Berga är ett stationssamhälle med goda pendlingsmöjligheter används för att locka nya invånare till orten. Samhällsföreningen som driver Berga bio använder sig av stationen och järnvägen för att bredda sin publik och på sätt också bredda det kulturella utbudet i Berga. Samhällsföreningen har också blivit en social rörelse som arbetar för Bergas fortsatta utveckling.

This study addresses the importance of the railway station in the small community of Berga in Högsby municipality, Småland. I have focused on what the station has meant for the residents historically and what it means today. I have also studied what kind of effects the station has on rural development in Berga. The purpose of the study is to find out how the station's role has changed over time. From the time that the railway was built in 1897 to that the Kustpilen was inaugurated in 1996 includes the 'past' and from 1996 until today counts as ’present’.
The empirical data were collected through observations of the station area, interviews with four randomly selected people and two key informants and also reading of relevant literature.
Based on different theories, for example, endogenous rural development; the unique characteristics of local history and previous research about the station’s role in rural development, I have discussed the importance of Berga station.
Back in time, the station in Berga was a meeting place for residents. The railway also gave a sense of contact with the outside world and made it easier for people to travel around the country. Today, the station is still of great importance, and the station has become Berga’s way to promote itself. The way in which Berga is a station village, with good commuting opportunities is used to attract new residents. Berga cinema uses the railway station to broaden its audience and in a way also to broaden the cultural offer in Berga. The social association in Berga has become a social movement working for Berga's continued development.
