Abstract

Miljön runt järnvägen är ofta det enda intryck som tågresenären får av de städer han eller hon passerar på väg mot sitt resmål. Den järnvägsnära miljön påverkar på så sätt inte bara uppfattningen om miljön längs med
spåren, utan skapar även föreställningar om staden som passeras. En tilltalande omgivning längs med järnvägen är därmed viktig för bilden av staden såväl som för resupplevelsen genom staden.
I Nässjö har den järnvägsnära miljön brister som troligen påverkar allmänhetens uppfattning om området. Staden har en utpräglad industrikänsla som märks mycket tydligt längs järnvägen, medan mycket annat Nässjö har att erbjuda hamnar i skymundan. Det något skräpiga utseendet på många platser längs järnvägsspåren drar ner intrycket av staden. Stationsbyggnaden och den övergång som används för att ta sig upp och ner till perrongerna ger ett relativt trist intryck och gatorna runt stationsbyggnaden upplevs ofta som folktomma. Allt detta ger tillsammans utrymme till förbättring.
I mitt examensarbete har jag fokuserat på miljön som ses från tåget och dess påverkan på både resupplevelsen och på resenärens uppfattning om Nässjö. I teoridelen av arbetet presenteras underlag för den analys jag gjort av de
järnvägssträckor som går genom staden.
Sex järnvägslinjer strålar samman i Nässjö, och inräknat den centrala sträckan som länkar samman dessa, finns alltså sju järnvägssträckor i staden. För att begränsa arbetet valdes de tre viktigaste sträckorna ut efter att ha studerat samtliga sträckor genom kartstudier och/eller resor
med tåg. Järnvägsmiljön längs sträckorna mot Jönköping och Stockholm, samt den centrala järnvägssträckan genom Nässjös centrum bestämdes ha det största behovet av en visuell förändring med hänsyn till estetiskt intryck samt antal förbipasserande tåg.
De utvalda delsträckorna studerades sedan mer detaljerat för att kunna utreda var någonstans längs sträckan som behovet av en förändring är som störst. För var och en av de tre sträckorna pekades två eller tre platser ut som mycket viktiga. Därutöver behandlades stationsområdet i ett
eget avsnitt där de viktigaste punkterna definierades.
Utifrån en undersökning av platsens och Nässjö stads behov och potential togs förslag till förändringar fram som vid en realisering bedöms kunna få positiva konsekvenser för uppfattningen om Nässjö och för resupplevelsen genom staden. Förslagen skiljer sig kraftigt åt både vad gäller
omfattning, detaljskala och ekonomiska investeringar, och i vissa fall krävs fortsatta utredningar för att kunna konkretisera mina föreslagna idéer.

The area surrounding the railroad is often the only impression the traveler will get from passing cities on the way to his or her final destination. These scenes will therefore not only affect the opinion regarding the environment that is visible from the train, but also help create the conception of the whole city. Attractive spaces surrounding the tracks is thus important for the image of the city as well as the travel experience through the
city.
In the city of Nässjö, the railroad environment has several insufficiencies that presumably influence the society’s opinion of the area. The city has a distinct industrial feeling that is very noticeable along the railroad tracks,
while many other things that the city has to offer is kept hidden from sight. The untidy appearance of many spots next to the railway also lower the impression of the city. The station-building and the raised passage that is used to walk to and from the platforms also have a dull expression
and the streets close to the station often appears empty. These aspects together gives room for enhancements.
In my thesis project, I have focused on the environment that is visible from the train, and its impact om the travel experience and on the traveler’s comprehension of Nässjö.
The theoretical part of the report presents a basis for the analysis I made of the railway tracks that runs through the city.
Six railway lines meet in Nässjö, counting the central part connecting these gives seven lines running through the city. To limit the extent of the report, the three most important lines were chosen after having studied all lines through maps and/or traveling by train. The railroad environment surrounding the railway sections to jönköping and Stockholm, together with the central stretch of the tracks that passes through the city center of Nässjö, was determined to be in most need of refurbishments,
considering esthetic appeal and the number of passing trains.
The railway lines chosen were later studied in a more detailed way to investigate what parts of the areas that have the largest demand for change. For each one of the three railway stretches, two or three spots were considered to be of massive importance. In addition, the area surrounding the central station were discussed in its own segment of the report.
By researching the needs and potential for the affected areas as well as the city of Nässjö, proposals were made, that through a realization are estimated to lead to positive consequences for the image of Nässjö and for
the traveler’s experience passing through the city. The several alternatives differ in both width, detail and economic investments and for some of them continuing investigations are needed to implement my proposals.
