Abstract

Under 2005 och 2008 inventerades förekomsten av större vattensalamander(Triturus cristatus) i Gävleborgs län. Ett till synes isolerat fynd gjordes väster om Hofors.
Inventeringarna utfördes med flaskfällor och visuell observation och lokaler valdes via kartblad enligt kriterier på vattenytans areal, rörelse och distans till väg. Syftet med detta arbete var att undersöka huruvida den observerade isoleringen var faktisk eller endast ett
resultat av den använda inventeringsmetodiken. Detta arbete baserades på en radie kring en känd population där radien baserades på spridningsdistans, mognadsålder samt tid sedan den förra studien. Lokaler valdes sedan ut inom radien med krav på areal vattenyta och förekomsten av stillastående vatten varpå inventeringar utfördes med flaskfällor. Studien
visade inte på några nya fynd av större vattensalamander men ett fynd av mindre vattensalamander(Lissotriton vulgaris) gjordes och två nya möjliga lokaler upptäcktes.
Avsaknaden av nya fynd av större vattensalamander visar på att den tidigare studien gav en bra bild av isoleringsgraden och att en annan inventeringsmetod inte gav nya resultat. Det finns dock skäl att utforska andra aspekter, och an inventeringsmetoder, t.ex. kan fallfällor
med driftstaket eller håvning under sommartid, ge andra resultat.

In 2005 and 2008 the occurrence of the great crested newt(Triturus cristatus) was surveyed in the county of Gävleborg, Sweden. The monitoring was conducted with bottle traps and visual observation and potential sites were identified chosen via map sheets according to the criteria
of area, movement and distance to the road. The survey identified a seemingly isolated finding, west of Hofors. The present work investigates whether the observed isolation was real or merely the result of the used inventory methodology. The new method of survey
identified potential sites in which, rather than via the map sheets, were selected based on the radius from a known population of crested newt and an assumed distance of dispersal, maturity, age, and time since the last study. Potential sites were then selected within the radius
using the criteria on area and stagnant water, after which inventories were performed with bottle traps. The study showed no new findings of great crested newt, but a finding of newt(Lissotriton vulgaris) were made and two new possible premises were discovered. The lack of new findings of great crested newt shows that the earlier study provided a good picture of the isolation degree and another inventory method yielded no new results. Other aspects
should be considered and other inventory methods, e.g. drift fences or netting during the summer, may give different results.
