Abstract

Som aktiv nyttjare av kollektivtrafiken har jag ofta upplevt hur väntan kan kännas såpass negativ (tråkig och otrygg) att jag valt andra färdmedel. Måste det se så ut? Vad styr utformningen av hållplatserna i Göteborg och hur skulle de kunna gestaltas för att skapa mervärden?
I denna uppsats har målet varit att redogöra för varför hållplatser är utformade som de är, genom exemplet Göteborgs innerstad, samt med hänsyn till detta ifrågasätta och föra en kritisk diskussion kring hur hållplatserna skulle kunna planeras och gestaltas för att bidra till en mer attraktiv väntan och urban miljö. Syftet har varit att öka min egen förståelse för denna planering men även belysa hållplatsens potential till att dels få fler att resa kollektivt, dels bidra till en stimulerande tät stad. Studien är indelad i en inventerande del som besvarar vem och vad det är som styr följt av ett kritiskt diskuterande avsnitt som ifrågasätter utformningen. Materialet har samlats in genom platsbesök, kvalitativa intervjuer med inblandade aktörer samt en litteraturstudie.

Min slutsats understryker vikten av att bredda inställningen till kollektivtrafikens hållplatser. Idag formas de för att vara en effektiv och funktionell på- och
avstigningszon för den kollektiva resan, men hänsyn tas inte till att platsen även är en del av den täta stadens offentliga rum. Det vill säga, en yta där människor även valt att kollektivt vistas. Om hållplatsens tilläts präglas mer av de mänskliga behoven och i större utsträckning stimulera individens sinnen, jämte de transportfunktionella kraven, menar jag att både den väntande stunden och stadsmiljön skulle kunna upplevas mer attraktiv.

As an active user of public transport, I’ve often experienced how the moment of waiting has felt so unsatisfying (boring and insecure) that I’ve chosen other means of transport.

Do I have to experience this feeling? What determines how the design of the bus stops looks like in Gothenburg and how could they be planned to create additional values?
In this paper, the goal has been to explain why the stops are designed as they are, through the example of Gothenburg city and, with regard to this, bring up a critical
discussion of how the bus stops could be planned and designed to contribute to a more attractive waiting and urban environment. The aim has been to increase my own
knowledge for this kind of planning but also highlight the site's potential - to encourage more people to use public transport, and contribute to a stimulating dense city.
The study is divided into a collecting part and a critical discussion. The first part answers who’s in charge of the design and what factors that contributes to their decision.
The second part questions this design. The material has been collected through site visits, interviews with some of the people involved and additional a study of literature.
My conclusion is that the public transport stops can be more than just an effective and functional on-and off zone for the trip. The place is also a part of the dense city's public spaces – an area where people chose to spend their time – which should be taken into consideration. If the human needs and the individual's senses were allowed to
characterize it more, and not only the transports functional requirements, the outcome would be a more attractive place for the moment of waiting as well as a more
stimulating urban environment.
