Abstract

Syftet med uppsatsen var främst att undersöka vilka kvaliteter i utemiljö kring äldreboende
som är viktiga för de boende äldres hälsa, välbefinnande och lust att använda utemiljön. Detta gjordes genom en litteraturstudie. Resultatet delades in i tre kategorier: Äldreboendet bör ha kontakt med liv utanför boendet, Äldreboendets utemiljö bör erbjuda flera olika upplevelser och ge den boende möjligheten att byta miljö på äldreboendet och Äldreboendets utemiljö behöver vara
tillgänglig, bekväm och trygg. I varje kategori finns ett antal viktiga kvaliteter, som utsikt, vegetation och tillgänglighet. För att fördjupa förståelsen för hur kvaliteterna i praktiken kan utformas så studerades tävlingsbidrag till arkitekttävlingen Framtidens äldreboende. Alla tävlingsbidragen erbjöd många av de viktiga kvaliteterna i utemiljöerna.

The aim of this essay was to investigate which qualities in the outdoor environment of nursing homes are of most importance for the elderly. What qualities are important for the elderlys health, well-being and desire to use the outdoor environment? This was studied in literature
and the result was categorized in three categories: The nursing home should have contact with the surrounding life, the outdoor environment of the nursing home should offer a variety of experiences and give a possibility to change environment and the outdoor environment of the
nursing home should offer an accessible, comfortable and safe environment. In every category there are several important qualities, like view, vegetation and accessibility. After the literature had been studied, to get a deeper knowledge of how the qualities can be
designed in reality, the contributions to an architecture competition called Framtidens äldreboende (Nursing Homes of the Future) was studied. All of the contributions contained a several of the important qualities of the outdoor environment.
