Abstract

Kan naturstudier och informationsteknologi ge förutsättningar för ett lärande på ett sådant sätt att barns kunskaper, hälsa och sociala utveckling ökar? Denna uppsats undersöker hur skolbarns användning av två olika IT – verktyg i naturen, påverkar deras naturkontakt på olika nivåer. Resultatet pekar på; att arbeta med en digital bildberättelse är en aktivitet som bör genomföras ensam, om ambitionen är att låta skolbarn uppleva direkt naturkontakt. Under arbetet med bildberättelsen kan dock det estetiska uttrycket ge andra dimensioner i lärandet. De barn som använde Geocaching som IT-verktyg i denna studie motiverades till rörelse och lärandet bestod i flera nya kunskaper om avstånd, väderstreck och matematik. Under genomförandet blev den sociala aspekten tydlig och viljan att lära varandra, samtidigt som de sinnliga upplevelserna av natur uppmärksammades.
För att söka svar på frågeställningarna användes deltagande observation och kvalitativa intervjuer. 6 grupper av barn deltog och grupperna bestod av 2-4 personer. Under tiden som övningen med IT-verktyg pågick spelades deras samtal in, transkriberades och analyserades. Metoderna valdes för att kunna ta del av informanternas livsvärld och tolkningen av deras svar ger grunden för denna kvalitativa studie.
Barns kontakt med djur, träd och konkreta naturelement väcker deras nyfikenhet och minnen. Det är därför viktigt att låta den pedagogiska planeringen utgå från den mer direkta naturkontakten. Däremot kan IT – verktygen främja barns motivation till ett visst lärande, och att kombinationen med natur kan då bli en framgångsfaktor.

Can nature studies and information technology provide the conditions for learning in such a way that children's knowledge, health and social development increases? This paper examines how school children's use of two different IT - tools in nature, affected their contact with nature at different levels. The results indicate: working with a digital picture's story is an activity that should be carried out alone, if the aim is to allow school children to experience direct contact with nature. While working on the picture story, however, the aesthetic expression provides other dimensions of learning. Those children who used geocaching as an IT tool in this study were instead motivated to move fast, and learning consisted of more new knowledge about distance, direction, and mathematics. During implementation, the social aspects and the desire to teach each other became clear and the sensual experience of nature was obvious.
To seek answers to the questions I used participant observations and qualitative interviews. 6 groups of children were my informants and the groups consisted of 2-4 people. While the exercise with IT - tools were carried out I recorded their conversations. Then I transcribed and analyzed the material. I wanted to get in touch with the informants' life-world and the interpretation of their answers provides the basis for this qualitative study.
Children's contact with animals, trees and concrete natural elements arouse their curiosity and memories. Therefore, these elements are essential to the educational planning if we want to give children a more direct contact with nature. The implementation of the IT - the tools can however foster children's motivation to different forms of learning and the combination can be successful.
