Abstract

Landskapsarkitekter har möjlighet att genom gestaltning främja estetiska värden i tekniska anläggningar och kan på så vis ge dessa anläggningar mervärden utöver deras tekniska funktion.
Detta kandidatarbete omfattar ett gestaltningsförslag för en
planerad dagvattendammsanläggning i Hudiksvall. Vi ville med gestaltningen skapa en plats som inte bara uppfyller tekniska behov utan också blir attraktiv för människor att besöka genom att erbjuda estetiska värden och upplevelser.
Metoden för vårt arbete innefattade platsbesök, inventering,
möten med representanter från Hudiksvalls kommun, analys,
gestaltningsarbete samt litteraturundersökningar. Genom litteraturen undersökte vi betydelsen av begreppet estetik utifrån Simon Bell och Ian H. Thompsons teorier. Under arbetet läste vi också Patrik Grahn för att få inblick i hans teorier kring naturens förmåga att ge rekreation. Vi fördjupade oss även i Kevin Lynchs analysmetod.
Litteraturen blev också en hjälp för att hitta lämpliga växter till
gestaltningen samt exempel på internationellt och nationellt kända
tekniska anläggningar uppmärksammade för sina estetiska värden.
Gestaltningsförslaget fick namnet Dagvattenparken och
utformades för att bjuda in människor i anläggningen samt erbjuda estetiska upplevelser och attraktiva uppehållsplatser. Genom
gestaltningsidén kombinerades hårda material från hamnen och
kajen med informella naturlika växtvolymer. Utformningen
anpassades vidare efter förutsättningar givna av Hudiksvalls
kommun samt dagvattendammarnas tekniska funktioner.
Estetik som begrepp har många betydelser och tolknings-
möjligheter och är därför problematiskt men också intressant att
diskutera. Estiska upplevelser kan förklaras som sinnliga
upplevelser. Sådana upplevelser kan tillföras en plats så att den bli mer attraktiv att vistas i. Estetiska upplevelser kan vidare funger som rekreativa upplevelser och är därför någonting som alla
människor har ett behov av. Vidare finns inom landskapsarkitektur ett behov av att verbalisera kring formgivning samt att utöver en plats tekniska funktion framhålla estetiska värden för att skapa
attraktiva platser.

Landscape architects have the opportunity to improve aesthetic
values in technical constructions through their design, and in this way give these sites additional values beyond their technical use. This bachelor thesis comprises a design project for a planned storm water construction including two ponds, in Hudiksvall, Sweden.
Our aim was to investigate how this site could be given aesthetic values beyond its technical and thereby be an attractive place for people to dwell on.
The method for our work included visits in Hudiksvall, meetings with representatives from the municipality of Hudiksvall, inventory of the place, analysis with a base in the method of Kevin Lynch, design work and literature studies. The literature was used to
investigate the concept of aesthetics, through the theories of Simon Bell and Ian H. Thompson. The literature studies also involved the analyses method of Lynch and an insight in Patrik Grahn’s theories concerning the recreational values in nature. It was also important to us to find suitable plants for the design project and to find examples on international and national technical constructions with certain beholds of aesthetic values.
The design proposal was given the name Dagvattenparken
(The Storm Water Park). A central target in the design process was to invite people to the site and offer them aesthetic experiences and attractive halts. Solid materials inspired by the harbor were mixed with informal vegetation inspired by the nature through a design concept. Further the design was also formed to respond to the
conditions given by the municipality of Hudiksvall and the technical needs of the ponds.
The concept of aesthetics has many meanings and ways to be read which makes it difficult but interesting to discuss. However aesthetical experiences can be explained as experiences through the senses and those experiences can be designed into a place to make it a more attractive place to be in. Aesthetical experiences can further generate experiences of recreation and thus one can argue that it’s something everyone needs. Landscape design can give
technical constructions estetical values and thereby make these
places attractive for people to visit.
