Abstract

Hittills finns det ytterst lite undersökt och skrivet om färgupplevelse av vegetation. För att få ytterliggare kunskaper som utvecklar färgförståelsen vid gestaltning av miljöer där vedartad vegetation är ett viktigt inslag, behövs en grundligare undersökning av vegetationens upplevelsevärden inklusive färgen på olika avstånd och under skilda årstider. Artikeln behandlar individers upplevelse av vegetationsburen färg och är en undersökning av upplevd färgperception i skogsbestånd. Huvudfrågorna som behandlas är: Vad händer med vår färgperception samt vårt känsloliv när ett vegetationssystem betraktas och hur mycket påverkar avståndet till objektet vår upplevelse? Dessutom berörs hur människan påverkas av den färgförändring som sker med årstidsväxlingarna samt den roll artsammansättningen spelar för färgupplevelsen.
Undersökningen bestod av fyra delmoment. Försöksgruppen placerades på olika avstånd i förhållande till unga skogsbestånd och ombads att välja ut de tre mest dominanta färgerna för respektive bestånd och avstånd. Färgupplevelsen redovisades genom skriftliga färgnoteringar, skriftliga färgreflektioner, analys med hjälp av RHS-systemet samt genom fri återgivning av färgupplevelsen.
Studien har lett framtill tankar om färgers betydelse vid gestaltning av vegetationssystem.
Resultaten pekar mot att det är av mycket stor vikt vid vegetationsdesign att ta hänsyn till individens färgupplevelse i gestaltningsprocessen. Resultaten visar vidare att vi i framtiden kan tala om att färgen i vegetationssystem kan uppfattas som en färgmassa eller som färgarkitektur.

Colour experience of vegetation has been extremely little investigated or written about hitherto. The acquisition of further knowledge to enhance our colour understanding in connection with the design of environments where woody vegetation is an important element will require a more thorough investigation of the experiential values of vegetation, including colour at different distances and at different seasons of the year. This article addresses individual persons’ experience of vegetation-borne colour and is an investigation of experienced colour perception in forest stands. The main topics addressed are: What happens to our perception of colour and our emotions when regarding a vegetation system and how greatly is our experience affected by distance from the object? In addition, this article touches on the question of how people are affected by the colour change accompanying the changing seasons and the role of species mix in the experience of colour.
The study comprised four sections. The experimental subjects were positioned at different distances in relation to young forest stands and asked to pick out the three most dominant colours of each stand and distance. The colour experience was recorded in written colour notations, written reflections on colour, analysis with the aid of the RHS system and free recounting of the colour experience.
The study has generated thoughts concerning the importance of colours in the design of vegetation systems. The findings indicate that it is very important in vegetation design to take individual colour experience into account in the design process. The findings also show that in future we can speak of the colour of vegetation systems being perceived as a colour mass or as colour architecture.
