Abstract

Denna retrospektiva journalstudie har undersökt 188 hundar vid två djursjukhus. Syftet var att kartlägga användningen av diagnostik- och behandlingsval av olika prostatasjukdomar i relation till litteraturens rekommendationer samt beskriva och jämföra antibiotikaanvändningen vid diagnoserna prostatit och prostataabscess med litteraturens rekommendationer. Journaldata samlades in från Provet Cloud från båda djursjukhusen och de fem diagnoser som undersöktes i denna studie var prostatahypertrofi/prostatahyperplasi, prostataabscess, prostataneoplasi, prostatit och prostatacysta. Filtrering gjordes efter diagnos, djurslaget hund och konsultationsdatum mellan åren 2020–2025. De parametrar som noterades i ett enskilt Excel-dokument var: patientnummer, diagnos, besöksorsak, ålder, vikt, kastreringsstatus, ras, kliniska symtom, diagnostik och behandling. Därefter jämfördes resultaten från djursjukhusen med litteraturens rekommendationer angående diagnostik och behandling för respektive sjukdom samt antibiotikaanvändning för prostatit och prostataabscess. Konklusionen från denna studie var att båda djursjukhusen i hög grad följde litteraturens rekommendationer vad gäller diagnostik och behandling. Det som däremot avvek från litteraturen var hur antibiotika användes och att djursjukhusen generellt hade en kortare behandlingsduration.

This retrospective medical record study has examined 188 dogs at two animal hospitals. The aim was to map the use of diagnostic and treatment options for different prostate diseases in relation to literature recommendations and to describe and compare the use of antibiotics in the diagnoses of prostatitis and prostate abscess with the literature's recommendations. Medical records were retrieved from Provet Cloud system at both animal hospitals and filtered by canine species, relevant prostate-related diagnoses, and consultation dates between 2020 and 2025. The five diagnoses
investigated were prostatic hypertrophy/prostatic hyperplasia, prostate abscess, prostate neoplasia, prostatitis, and prostate cyst. The parameters recorded in a separate Excel file included: patient number, weight, diagnosis, and treatment. The results from the animal hospitals were then compared with literature recommendations regarding diagnosis and treatment for each disease as well as for antibiotic use for prostatitis and prostate abscess. The conclusion from this study was that both animal hospitals in most cases followed the recommendations of the literature regarding diagnostics and treatment. However, deviations were observed in antibiotic use, primarily in terms of shorter treatment durations compared with those recommended in the literature.
