Abstract

Dagens livsmedelssystem präglas av maktkoncentration, långa distributionskedjor och hållbarhetsutmaningar vilket lett till ökat fokus på alternativa livsmedelssystem. Denna studie undersöker alternativa livsmedelssystem genom en kvalitativ flerfallstudie på fem aktörer aktiva i olika typer av alternativa livsmedelssystem. Syftet är att undersöka hur de arbetar genom olika praktiker samt vilka mervärden som möjliggörs genom dessa. Studien tar avstamp i structuration theory och Anthony Giddens dualitetskoncept mellan agens och struktur för att analysera aktörernas praktiker. Även en vidareutveckling av structuration theory används för att fokusera analysen till spänningar mellan agens och struktur. Analysen identifierar fyra centrala praktiker: att bygga relationer, utmana systemet, selektera samt informera och främja. Dessa praktiker förklaras sedan som möjliggörare av mervärden i form av rättvisa leverantörskedjor, stärkt lokal resiliens.

Today’s food system is characterized by concentration of power, long distribution chains, and sustainability challenges, which have led to an increased focus on alternative food systems. This study examines alternative food systems through a qualitative multiple case study of five agents in different types of alternative food systems. The purpose is to investigate how these agents operate through various practices, as well as the added values enabled through these practices. The study is grounded in structuration theory and Anthony Giddens’ concept of duality between agency and structure in order to analyze the agents’ practices. A further development of the practice is also applied to discuss tensions between agency and structure. The analysis identifies four central practices: building relationships, challenging the system, selecting, and informing and promoting. These practices could enable social added values in the form of fair supply chains and strengthened local resilience.
