Abstract

Bromma flygplats planeras att avvecklas år 2038 vilket innebär att 130 hektar mark frigörs i centrala delar av Stockholm. Den unika möjligheten för en omfattande stadsutveckling i en tid av komplexa samhällsutmaningar, så som bostadsbrist, ekosystemkollaps och klimatkris, väckte intresset att undersöka hur en möjlig stadsplanering kan utformas.

Syftet är att undersöka hur ekologiska processer kan styra stadsplanering där tiden används som ett aktivt arbetsverktyg för hållbar stadsutveckling. Vidare syftar projektet till att utforska hur stad och natur kan samexistera i ömsesidigt stärkande relationer, snarare än att ställas mot varandra. Målet med projektet är att utforska utställningsformatet som kommunikationsmedel för att visa på föränderliga processer. Vidare målsättning är att utställningen ska väcka diskussion om framtidens stadsutveckling.

Undersökningen bygger på teori om ekologi, storskalighet, resiliens, människans relation till naturen och exploateringsekonomi. Referensprojekt som berör samma ämnen, har studerats och samtal med experter har genomförts för att fördjupa och tillföra erfarenhetsbaserad kunskap. Den samlade kunskapen har omsatts i projektets skiss- och gestaltningsarbete.

Projektet presenteras genom en utställning med material över undersökningen samt en modell över Bromma flygplats. Modellen visar området med naturen som grundstruktur, där utvecklingen av sociala funktioner, infrastruktur och bebyggelse projiceras som en pågående process över tid, snarare än ett färdigt slutresultat.

Projektet ämnar inte förmedla en färdig stadsplan, utan vill med utställningen kritiskt reflektera kring hur framtidens stadsutveckling kan utformas i relation till ekologiska processer och långsiktig resiliens.

Bromma Airport is planned to be phased out by 2038, releasing approximately 130 hectares of land in central parts of Stockholm. This unique opportunity for large-scale urban development, at a time of complex societal challenges such as housing shortages, ecosystem collapse, and the climate crisis, sparked interest in exploring how potential urban planning could be designed.

The aim is to investigate how ecological processes can guide urban planning, where time is used as an active tool for sustainable urban development. Furthermore, the project aims to explore how the city and nature can coexist in mutually reinforcing relationships. The goal of the project is to explore the exhibition format as a means of communication to illustrate changing processes. A further objective is for the exhibition to spark discussion about the future of urban development.

The study is based on theories of ecology, large-scale systems, resilience, human relationships with nature, and what drives exploitation. Reference projects addressing the same topics have been studied, and discussions with experts have been conducted to deepen and contribute experience-based knowledge. This collective knowledge has been incorporated into the project’s sketching and design work.

The project is presented through an exhibition featuring materials from the study as well as a model of Bromma Airport. The model depicts the area with nature as its underlying structure, where the development of social functions, infrastructure, and buildings is projected as an ongoing process over time, rather than a finished end result.

The project does not aim to present a finished urban plan, but rather seeks, through the exhibition, to critically reflect on how future urban development can be shaped in relation to ecological processes and long-term resilience.
