Abstract

Genom att använda en utställning som presentationsform undersöker detta projekt hur utforskande metoder kan utveckla platsspecifika och idédrivna gestaltningsprocesser inom landskapsarkitektur. Med fokus på området under Skanstullsbron i Stockholm, ett marginaliserat infrastrukturellt mellanrum, prövas en platsdriven utforskande metodik där inventering, tolkning, bearbetning och design sker parallellt i en iterativ process. Genom att utforma inventeringsmetoder, skissövningar, konstnärliga bearbetningar och lågaffektiv design ska projektet undersöka platsens identitet i detalj och helhet, samt dess potential.

Projektet presenteras i tre steg: inventering av platsens fysiska egenskaper, ljud och förbipasserande människors åsikter; bearbetning och tolkning av materialet från inventeringen; utveckling av möjliga förändringar i form av tillägg och förskjutningar. Resultatet presenteras i en utställning som både kommunicerar projektets innehåll till besökarna samtidigt som den fungerade som ett analytiskt verktyg för oss under processens gång. Studien visar hur utforskande metoder kan generera alternativa insikter om platsens identitet och potential och bidrar till en diskussion om metodens betydelse i inledande skeden av gestaltningsprocessen.

Using an exhibition as a form of presentation, this project explores how explorative methods can develop site-specific and idea-driven design processes in landscape architecture. Focusing on the area under the Skanstull Bridge in Stockholm, a marginalized infrastructural space, a site-driven explorative methodology is tested, in which inventory, interpretation, processing, and design take place in parallel in an iterative process. Through developing inventory methods, sketching exercises, artistic representations, and low-impact design additions, the project aims to investigate the identity of the site in detail and as a whole, as well as its potential.

The project is presented in three steps: inventory of the site's physical characteristics, sound and the opinion of people passing by ; processing and interpretation of the material from the inventory; development of possible changes in the form of additions and displacements. The results are presented in an exhibition that both communicates the project’s content to the visitors and serves as an analytical tool for us throughout the process. The study shows how explorative methods can generate alternative insights into the identity and potential of the site and contributes to a discussion about the importance of the method in the initial stages of the design process.
