Abstract

Generationsskiftet är, och har alltid varit den process som i största utsträckning säkerställer lantbrukets framtid. Sveriges lantbrukare har en åldrande kår, där ungefär en tredjedel har passerat pensionsåldern (LRF ungdomen 2023). Ur ett företagsekonomiskt perspektiv kan det vara enklare att sammanfatta problemen som dagens lantbrukare stöter på inom generationsskiften med ekonomiska hårda värden, så som kapitalbehov, fastighetsmarknadens prisökningar, lönsamhetsproblem samt beroende av bidrag. Att istället utforska mjuka värden utifrån historia, symboler samt identitet är en mer modern synvinkel på ett komplext problem som författarna syftar att undersöka.

Denna studie består av en teorisammanfattning, semistrukturerade intervjuer samt slutsatser inom de ovanstående mjuka värden som belysts. Teorisammanfattningen är grundad i organisationsteori, och teorier som hör till denna kategori av företagsekonomin. Studien utforskar vad det innebär att vara en bonde, och vilka utmaningar som hör till yrket, både generellt men med fokus på generationsskiftet. Eftersom detta ämne som nämnt ovan är relativt modernt att utforska i detta sammanhang finns det stora möjligheter att utveckla de få existerande teorier som lämpar sig på lantbruket.

Genom semistrukturerade intervjuer med fem olika lantbrukare har författarna lyckats sammanfatta och analysera ämnet grundligt. De mjuka värden som studien syftat till att undersöka har författarna sammanfattat och resultatet påvisar att dessa också spelar en betydande roll i generationsskiftet.

Succession planning, and succession is, and has always been the foremost process that insures Swedish farmers future and survival. Sweden´s agricultural workforce is aging, where approximately one third of its workers has passed the age of retirement (LRF ungdomen 2023). From a business management perspective, it could be easier to summarise the problems concerning succession with economical “harder” values such as the need for capital, the rise of prices in the housing market, problems with profitability, and a growing dependency on subsidies. However, to instead explore the softer economic values such as historical implications, symbols, and identity is a more modern viewpoint of a complex problem which the authors intend to explore.

This study is composed of a theory summarisation, semi-structured interviews, and conclusions concerning the softer values mentioned above. The theory summarisation is based on organisational theory, and theories that are sub categorised within this part of business management. The study explores what it means to be a farmer, and what challenges that arise from exercising the profession, both in a more general manner, but also focused on succession. Since this interpretation of the subject is relatively modern, there are large opportunities to expand and develop existing theories that are applicable within the agricultural sector.

By conducting semi structured interviews with five different farmers the authors have succeeded in summarising and analysing the subject matter thoroughly. The softer values that were the central purpose of the study to explore, have been concluded to affect succession in a great way. The authors have summarised and concluded this a result of the interviews conducted.
