Abstract

I denna litteraturstudie sammanställdes information om krävans funktion hos slaktkyckling. Krävan är ett av segmenten i mag-tarmkanalen hos fjäderfä vars främsta funktion är att lagra foder. Idag är så kallade fyllda krävor ett ökande problem i svensk kycklingslakt som leder till ökad kassation. Ännu finns ingen känd förklaring till problemet vilket tyder på att mer forskning behövs. Därför syftade denna studie till att undersöka krävans funktion, fyllnad och tömning samt diskutera möjliga orsaker till problemet. Det framkom att muskelmagen samverkar med krävan och är ett viktigt organ för en fungerande matsmältning. Men också att ljusprogram, stress och metaboliska störningar är ytterligare faktorer som påverkar krävans fyllnad och tömning.

This thesis focuses on the function of the crop in broiler chickens. The crop is one of the segments in the gastrointestinal tract of poultry whose primary function is to store feed. Today, filled crops are an increasing problem in Swedish chicken slaughter, leading to increased condemnation. There is still no known explanation for the problem, which indicates that more research is needed. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the function, filling and emptying of the crop and to discuss possible causes of the problem. The research emerged that the muscular stomach interacts with the crop and is an important organ for a functional digestion. But also, that light programs, stress and metabolic disorders are additional factors that affect the filling and emptying of the crop.
