Abstract

Kandidatuppsatsen undersöker och analyserar Uppsala kommuns strategier för gång- och cykeltrafik och hur dessa är utformade i förhållande till Jan Gehls teori om människocentrerad stadsplanering. Strategierna delas in i tre olika teman, den hållbara, den säkra och den livliga staden, identifierade i Jan Gehls bok Cities for people (2010). Syftet är att analysera i vilken utsträckning kommunens dokument Innerstadsstrategin och Handlingsplanen för arbetet med cykeltrafik är planerade utifrån ett bil- eller gång- och cykelvänligt perspektiv och hur väl kommunens strategier stämmer överens med Jan Gehls teori om människocentrerad stadsplanering. Resultatet visar att dokumentens fokusområden skiljer sig från varandra men att strategierna som identifieras i dokumenten i stor utsträckning stämmer överens med Gehls teori särskilt när det kommer till att främja hållbara transportmedel framför bilen. Dock har dokumenten vissa brister när det kommer till att säkerställa att strategierna faktiskt implementeras i stadsplaneringen och en del strategier prioriterar effektivitet över upplevelsen av staden. Uppsatsen ger en inblick i hur kommunen tänker i arbetet för att främja människan i dagens stadsplanering och vilka strategier som finns för att skapa en stad med människan i fokus.

The bachelor's thesis examines and analyzes Uppsala municipality's strategies for pedestrian and bicycle traffic and how these are designed in relation to Jan Gehl's theory of human-centered urban planning. The strategies are divided into three themes, the sustainable, the safe, and the lively city, identified in Jan Gehl's book Cities for People (2010). The aim is to analyze to what extent the municipality’s documents, Innerstadsstrategin and Handlingsplanen för arbetet med cykeltrafik, are planned from a car- or pedestrian- and bicycle-friendly perspective and how well the municipality’s strategies align with Jan Gehl’s theory of human-centered urban planning. The results show that the focus areas of the documents differ from each other, but the strategies identified in the documents largely align with Gehl’s theory, particularly when it comes to promoting sustainable transportation over cars. However, the documents have certain shortcomings in ensuring that the strategies are actually implemented in urban planning, and some strategies prioritize efficiency over the experience of the city. The thesis provides insight into how the municipality may work to prioritize people in contemporary urban planning and what strategies exist to create a city with people at its center.
