Abstract

Det finns uttalade svårigheter inom landskapsarkitekturens yrkeskår vad gäller att fånga upp människors upplevelse av en plats och därmed att fånga upp dess mjuka värden. Samtal om mjuka värden som förs med medborgare och framtida målgrupper för landskapsförändringar dokumenteras ofta i textform, vilket kan vara ett ineffektivt sätt att bevara samtalens essens. För att ifrågasätta detta normativa ideal används Catherine Dees tankemodell Critical Visual Studies som metod för att bearbeta medborgarnas upplevelser konstnärligt, med avsikten att kunna göra de mjuka värdena med begripliga. Metoden blir grunden för ett experimenterande, vars syfte är att generera nya insikter. Tim Ingolds tankar om Wayfaring används för att på ett mer träffsäkert sätt samla in information som rör mjuka värden. Dessa tankar tillämpas sedan med hjälp av Walk-along Interviews för att forma den intervjumetod som används i arbetet. Resultatet av intervjuerna och den visuella bearbetningen redovisas med citat, bilder och illustrationer och leder till en analys kring hur det teoretiska och metodologiska ramverket kan tillämpas. Arbetet visar att en sådan tillämpning har potential för att användas som ett analysverktyg för djupare förståelse av landskapets mjuka värden, som ett generativt verktyg för att stimulera designidéer kopplade till en specifik plats och som ett samskapande verktyg för att skapa en bättre dialog vid landskapsförändringar.

There are stated difficulties amongst landscape architects when it comes to capturing people’s experiences of a place and therefore also to capture its soft values. Discussions on soft values with citizens and future target groups for landscape changes are often documented in writing, which may not effectively capture their essence. To challenge these normative ideals Catherine Dee’s thought model Critical Visual Studies is used as a method for processing the experiences of the citizens visually, with the intention to make the soft values more comprehensible. The method forms the basis for an experiment, aimed at generating new insights. Tim Ingold’s thoughts on Wayfaring are used in order to more accurately gather information concerning soft values. These thoughts are then applied to Walk-along Interviews to form the interview method used in this study. The results of the interviews and the visual processing are presented with quotes, pictures and illustrations, leading to an analysis of how the theoretical and methodological framework can be applied. The study demonstrates that such an application has the potential to serve as an analytical tool for deeper understanding of the soft values within the landscape, as a generative tool to stimulate design ideas linked to a certain place, and as a co-creative tool to enhance dialogue in the context of landscape changes.
