Abstract

Tidigare studier har behandlat street art respektive växtlighet i urbana miljöer med olika inriktningar, men det finns begränsat med studier som utforskar samspelet mellan av dessa två element. Detta arbete undersöker hur kombinationen av street art och växtlighet kan skapa visuellt intressanta inslag i industriområden i omvandling, med särskilt fokus på Gåsebäck i Helsingborg. Arbetet analyserar möjligheter och konflikter med denna kombination, med specifikt fokus på estetik och trygghet, och presenterar ett nytt perspektiv på användningen och potentialen hos street art i samklang med växtlighet.
Genom en iterativ process med intervjuer, platsbesök, fokusgruppsamtal och litteratur utvecklas konceptskisser med utgångspunkt i Gåsebäck. Konceptens potential bedömdes vara beroende av förvaltningens hållbarhet för respektive koncept, då upplevelsen av en välskött plats kopplas till både estetik och trygghet. Arbetet konstaterar även att koncept som integrerar belysning och en mänsklig skala i utformningen av street art och växtlighet anses bidra till den estetiska potentialen och trygghetsupplevelsen. Vidare indikerar arbetet att koncept som främjar medskapande har potential att vitalisera urbana områden genom att stärka kopplingen mellan det offentliga rummet och dess användare. Sammantaget bedöms street art och växtlighet kunna bidra till trygghetsupplevelsen, men integrationen av dessa två element anses inte isolerat leda till en automatisk förbättring av trygghetsupplevelsen.
Slutsatserna understryker vikten av en helhetssyn för estetiskt hållbara och trygghetsfrämjande koncept. Framtida arbeten föreslås inkludera vidare studier av olika sätt att kombinera street art och växtlighet, praktisk implementering av koncept samt utforskning av kombinationen i andra kontexter.

Previous studies have addressed street art and vegetation in urban environments with different focuses, but there is limited research exploring the interaction between these two elements. This study explores how the combination of street art and vegetation can create visually interesting features in transforming industrial areas, with a particular focus on Gåsebäck in Helsingborg. The study analyzes opportunities and conflicts arising from this combination, specifically emphasizing aesthetics and the sense of safety. It presents a new perspective on the usage and potential of street art integrated with vegetation.
Through an iterative process involving interviews, site visits, focus group discussions and literature, conceptual sketches of possible combinations of vegetation and street art are developed based on Gåsebäck. The potential of each concept is thought to depend on the sustainability of management, as the experience of a well-maintained place is linked to both aesthetics and safety. The study also notes that concepts integrating lighting and a human scale in the design of street art and vegetation are considered to contribute to the aesthetic potential and experience of safety. Furthermore, the study suggests that concepts promoting co-creation have the potential to revitalize urban areas by strengthening the connection between the public space and its users. Overall, street art and vegetation are deemed to contribute to the safety experience, but the integration of these two elements is not seen as automatically improving the safety perception.
The conclusions highlight the importance of a holistic approach for aesthetically sustainable and safety-promoting concepts. Future work is proposed to include further studies on different ways to combine street art and vegetation, practical implementation of concepts, and exploration of this combination in other contexts.
