Abstract

Under de senaste åren har de svenska mjölkbönderna blivit allt färre. Samtidigt så har möjligheterna för mjölkproduktion stramats åt ytterligare i Holland vilket gör att fler holländare ser möjligheter i Sverige. Genom att använda begrepp som livsstilsmigration, en lokal gemenskap och drivkrafter kommer jag undersöka holländares motivation att migrera och bli mjölkbönder i Västerbotten.
I och med den pågående rationaliseringen i det svenska jordbrukssamhället är det intressant att undersöka varför holländare ser möjligheter till en produktion här när trenden i landet är att fler bönder lägger ner än startar upp. Syftet med studien är att få en djupare förståelse för vad det är för drivkrafter som får holländare att välja att migrera till Sverige och vad de ser för möjligheter för att bli mjölkbönder i Västerbotten.
Studien visar att det främst var de ekonomiska möjligheterna som lockade familjerna att flytta till Västerbotten. Här är priserna på gårdar och mark lägre än i Södra Sverige och i Holland samtidigt som klimatet ger goda förutsättningar för en hållbar produktion. Att flytta från ett trångbott urbaniserat land för att få flytta ut närmre naturen och få möjlighet att se sina barn växa upp på landsbygden var också starka drivkrafter för informanterna.

In recent years, the Swedish dairy farmers have become fewer and fewer. At the same time opportunities for dairy production have been limited in The Netherlands which means that more Dutch people sees opportunities in Sweden. By using concepts like lifestyle migration, community and driving forces I will investigate Dutch people’s motivations to migrate and become dairy farmers in Västerbotten.
With the ongoing rationalization in the Swedish agriculture society, it is interesting to investigate why the Dutch see opportunities for a production here when the trend in the country is for more farmers to shut down then to start up. The purpose of this study is to gain a deeper understanding for which driving forces is involved in the decision to migrate to Sweden ad what opportunities they see to become dairy farmers in Västerbotten.
The study shows that it was mainly the economic opportunities that attracted the families to move to Västerbotten. Here are the prices on farms and land cheaper than in South of Sweden or in the Netherlands and at the same time the climate provides good condition for sustainable production. To move from a crowded urbanized country and to get to move closer to the nature and having the opportunity to see their children growing up in the countryside were also strong driving forces for the informants.
