Abstract

doft, hörsel, känsel och evenemang komma in.
blommorna.

This essay examines how parks can be adjusted for greater accessibility. The
purpose of the essay is to gain an extended understanding of what visually
impaired people need in a park, to prosper and be able to rest and use the park in
the desired way.
In order to examine and get answers to the essay’s questions, there will be a
literary study. The report will also contain a conversation with the chairman at
Synskadades Riksförbund Ängelholm/Båstad and interviews with four visually impaired persons. The conversation and the interviews give an extended
understanding for what is needed and what visually impaired people want to do in
a park.
The participants want to sit and walk in parks as well as listen to the sounds
around them. They also want to be able to have a cup of coffee/have a Swedish
“fika” and go to different events. The events can, with benefit, involve sight
interpretation in headphones.
To be able to touch and feel statues and vegetation is also important to some of
the participants. The most important thing, however, seemed to be the orientation.
The investigation gave that orientation should be the first thing to focus on. When
that is in place, the next step can take place. This step involves smell, hearing,
touch, and events.
Touching and feeling the vegetation can create problems. Other people around the
person who wants to touch the vegetation can be angry and think that they want to
destroy the plants. In order to avoid this, there could be specific parts of a park
that exist for the purpose of touching the vegetation (different parts of the park for
different functional variations). In the other parks, there could be “speaking signs”
that, in writing and speech, tell you that it is okay to touch the plants.
