Abstract

Syftet med den här studien är att undersöka betydelsen av kompetenserna hos ledande representanter inom civilsamhället i Sverige och deras möjligheter att omsätta sina kompetenser till utveckling för sina lokalsamhällen. Studien har genomförts med en kvalitativ ansats där intervjuer med representanter från föreningar som arbetar med att utveckla sina lokalsamhällen på landsbygden har utgjort grunden för insamlandet av empiri. Med hjälp av det teoretiska konceptet socialt kapital har en modell utformats för att analysera den empiri som samlats in genom intervjuerna. Modellen visar den process som sker när en individ använder sig av socialt kapital för bidra till utvecklingen av sitt lokalsamhälle. Analysen är indelad i tre avsnitt där det första avsnittet beskriver individens förutsättningar. Här betonas vikten av tidigare erfarenheter, ledarskapsrollen och de förutsättningar som är viktiga för en individ för att kunna använda sig av socialt kapital för sitt lokalsamhälles utveckling. I den andra delen understryks vikten av nätverk, i studien beskrivna som inre och yttre nätverk, och hur de kan komma till användning. Den tredje delen avhandlar vad användandet av socialt kapital faktiskt kan ge för effekter för ett lokalsamhälle och hur synen på en framtida utveckling kan se ut. De slutsatser som studien visar på är bland annat hur individuella egenskaper och kompetenser är av betydelse för ett lokalsamhälles utveckling, men också hur konceptet socialt kapital kan användas för att beskriva sambandet mellan individ och kollektiv.

The purpose of this study is to examine how leading representatives in the civil society in Sweden can convert their competence into the development of their local communities. The study was conducted with a qualitative approach where interviews were made with representatives from civil associations working to develop their local communities in rural areas. With the aid of the theoretical concept of social capital, a model has been designed that form the basis for analyzing the empirical data collected through the interviews. The model shows the process that takes place when an individual uses social capital for the development of their local community. The analysis is divided into three parts, where the first part describes the individual’s conditions. Here, the importance of previous experience, the role of leadership and the conditions that are important for an individual to be able to use social capital for the development of their local community is emphasized. The second part of the analysis emphasizes the importance of social networks, described in the study as internal and external networks, and how they can be used. The third part of the analysis regards the use and importance of social capital in a local community. The third part also investigates ideas and views about future development for local communities. The conclusions that the study shows include how individual characteristics and competencies are important for the development of a local community, but also how the concept of social capital can be used to describe the connection between an individual and a collective.
