Abstract

Den svenska skogen är viktig för tillverkningen av hållbara material och
produkter, ett ekosystem för en mängd djur och arter och en del av Sveriges
kulturarv som har format vår historia. Hur vi väljer att forma skogen genom
skötseln präglar alla dessa aspekter och mycket mer. Problemet som finns i dagens
skogslandskap är trender som visar på en minskad artrikedom och variation samt
tendenser som försvårar kvalitén på skogsproduktionen. Som en lösning på
problemet undersöks i denna studie hur restaurering kan tillämpas för att återta
värden i skogslandskapet och hur det kan tillämpas genom skötselmetoder.

Studiens första del består av en litteraturstudie som redovisar restaurering som
metod i skogslandskap, vilka lagar och riktlinjer som finns i svenska skogen,
aktörer och markägare och slutligen olika skötselmetoder. En intervju med en
landskapsarkitekt som arbetar med skogsfrågor är ett tillägg till litteraturstudien och
diskuterar de svårigheter och möjligheter som finns inom den svenska
skogsnäringen. Studiens resultat visar att de arbetssätt som tillämpas genom
skötseln har möjlighet att uppnå hållbarhetsmålen, näringen i sin helhet har däremot
svårare att uppnå samma mål. Resultatet visar på att det krävs mer forskning för att
stödja debatten kring vilka åtgärder som behövs och i vilken riktning arbetet bör
ske. Ett förbättringsområde som visats från flera perspektiv är planeringen på
landskapsnivå av skötselinsatser kan förebygga skador och underlätta för många
aktörer inom näringen.

The Swedish Forest is important for the manufacturing of sustainable materials
and products, an ecosystem for several animals and species and a part of Sweden's
cultural heritage that has shaped our history. How we choose to shape the forest
through management characterizes all these aspects and much more. The problem
that exists in today's forest landscape are trends that show a reduced biodiversity
and structural variety as well as trends that make the quality of forest production
more difficult to uphold. As a solution to the problem, this study examines how
restoration can be applied to regain values in the forest landscape and how it can be
applied through management methods.

The first part of the study consists of a literature study that reports restoration as
a method in forest landscapes, the laws and guidelines that exist in Swedish forests,
actors and landowners and finally different management methods. An interview
with a landscape architect who works with forest issues is a supplement to the
literature study and discusses the difficulties and opportunities that exist in the
Swedish forest industry. The results of the study show that the working methods
applied through management have the opportunity to achieve the sustainability
goals, but that the industry as a whole has more difficulty in achieving the same
goals. The results show that more research is needed to support the debate about
what measures are needed and in which direction the work should take place. One
area for improvement that has been shown from several perspectives is planning at
the landscape level, which can prevent damage and make it easier for many players
in the industry.
