Abstract

I en framtida stad kommer utrymme att vara en begränsande faktor och stadens offentliga rum behöver tillgodose möjligheter kopplat till ett ökat besökstryck med olika intressen. Detta kandidatarbete fokuserar på att besvara frågan hur Fyristorg, ett historiskt torg i centrala Uppsala med genomfartstrafik, kan utformas för att möta kraven på en levande innerstad där mänsklig aktivitet prioriteras samtidigt som trafik tillåts. För att lösa problemet appliceras konceptet Shared Space, där bilar och oskyddade trafikanter samsas om ytan på de gåendes villkor. Det ska även finnas möjligheter för temporära förändringar och tillägg - så som marknader, sommargata och musikevenemang.

Fyristorg analyseras utifrån Uppsala kommuns innerstadsstrategi samt Gehls kvalitetskriterier för den mänskliga miljön. Analysen ligger till grund för programplanen där torget utvecklas till en sammanhållen yta med enhetligt arkitoniska uttryck som delas upp i ett mjuktrafikrum respektive fredad zon. Elementen är flyttbara och möjliggör stor flexibilitet av användningen på platsen, vilket uppfyller kommunens mål om en levande innerstad.

In a future city, space will be a limiting factor. The public spaces will need to provide opportunities linked to an increased pressure of visitors with various interests..This beachelor thesis will focus on answering the question how Fyristorg, a historic square in central Uppsala with transit traffic, can be designed to meet the requirements of a vibrant inner city where human activitity is prioritized at the same time as trafic will be allowed. To solve the problem, the concept Shared Space will be applied, where cars and unprotected road users coexist on the surface on the pedestrian terms. There should also be opportunities for temporary changes and additions – such as markets, summer streets and music events.

Fyristorg will be anlyzed of Uppsala Municipality’s inner city strategy and Gehl’s quality criteria for the human environment. The analysis will form the basis for the programme plan where the square develops into a cohesive area with uniform architonic expressions that are divided into a soft-traffic room and a protected zone respectively. The elements will be removable and allow for great flexibility of use on the site, which meets the municipality's goal of a vibrant inner city.
