Abstract

I och med den rådande klimatkrisen är det viktigt att företag tar sitt samhällsansvar att arbeta hållbart. Energibranschen är en bransch där efterfrågan ökar i takt med den snabbt tilltagande befolkningstillväxten. Det är därför viktigt att företag inom energisektorn tar sitt samhällsansvar i ett hållbart perspektiv och lyssnar till denna efterfrågan. För att försäkra sig om att alla delar i ett företag arbetar hållbart, inklusive leverantörer och underleverantörer är det en bra idé att upprätta en värdekedjeanalys. På detta sätt kan företaget hitta aktiviteter som kan skapa värden, som i sin tur kan ge företaget konkurrensfördelar.
Fjärrvärmebranschen spelar en stor roll i omställningen till hållbar energi. På kraftvärmeverket ENA Energi produceras fjärrvärme med nästan 100% miljövänliga bränslen i form av retur- och skogsflis. Detta gör att företagets klimatavtryck är väldigt litet. Men även fast företaget gör ett litet avtryck i produktionen så finns det intresse av att förbättra hållbarheten i andra delar av företaget. Det kan därav vara en bra idé att göra en värdekedjeanalys på ENA Energi.
Syftet med studien är att hitta utmaningar och möjligheter i ENA Energis hållbarhetsarbete, samt att ta reda på hur företaget kan förbättra hållbarhetsarbetet i värdekedjan. Detta ska besvaras på genom intervjuer med nyckelpersoner på ENA Energi. För att hitta utmaningar och möjligheter i företagets hållbarhetsarbete kommer Epstein och Rejc Buhovacs värdekedjeteori att appliceras, tillsammans med teori om CSR. Det dessa teorier kommer att bidra med är att undersöka hur ENA Energi arbetar med de tre dimensionerna av hållbarhet genom hela företagets värdekedja. På detta sätt kan företaget få en stor bredd på förslag på hållbarhetsförbättringar.
Resultatet av studien visar att ENA Energi har ett välarbetat hållbarhetsarbete där de gör många betydande investeringar. Men att det finns olika områden och aktiviteter i dess värdekedja som kan förbättras ytterligare. Dessa aktiviteter har i studien tagits fram som utmaningar och möjligheter. Exempel på dessa aktiviteter är bland annat att företaget kan utveckla deras företagskultur att bli mer hållbar, de kan klimatkompensera för det skogsflis som används i produktionen och att de kan upprätta en hållbarhetsredovisning.

Because of the ongoing climate crisis, it is important for companies to take their responsibility to the society to work sustainable. The energy business is an industry which the demand is rapidly increasing with the growing world population. It is therefore important that companies in the energy business takes its responsibility to the society in a sustainable perspective and listens to this demand. To be sure that all the parts in a company works sustainable it is a good idea to implement a value chain analysis which also includes the companies’ suppliers and sub-contractors. In this way the company will be able to create value and if the company takes this value as an opportunity, they can get more competitive advantage.
The district heating business plays a big role in the change to more sustainable energy. At ENA Energi the production of district heating is produced on almost 100% environmentally friendly material, in form of return- and forest wood chips. This means that the company’s carbon footprint is minimal. Although the company has a sustainable production there is an interest to improve the sustainability in other departments of the company. Therefore, it would be a good idea to transact a value chain analysis on the cogeneration plant ENA Energi.
The purpose of this paper is to find challenges and opportunities in ENA Energi’s sustainability work and find out how the company can improve their sustainability work in the value chain. This will happen by examine and interview ENA Energi. To find challenges and opportunities in the company’s sustainability work the value chain theory by Epstein and Rejc Buhovac together with theory about CSR will be used. These theories will contribute to examine how ENA Energi works with the three dimensions of sustainability through the whole value chain. In this way the company can get a big variety of suggestions.
The result of this study shows that ENA Energi has a very elaborated sustainability work where they make many meaningful investments. But there are several different areas and activities in the company’s value chain who can improve further. This study has introduced these activities as challenges and opportunities. These activities can for instance be things as improve a more sustainable culture, climate compensate for the trees who were burnt in the production and by developing sustainability reporting.
