Abstract

Syftet med arbetet var att skapa ett gestaltningsförslag för smyckningsplatserna vid minneslunden på Östra kyrkogården i Malmö för att uppfylla framtidens krav på funktion och bevara karaktären av Sigurd Lewerentz arkitektur på platsen. Förslaget främjar den sociala hållbarheten för en tillgänglig och mer jämlik plats att besöka för att placera ut gravljus och snittblommor. Kraven som utmanar minneslunden idag är en konsekvens av befolkningsökningen i Malmö stad, vilket främst ökat mängden besökare på kyrkogården under allhelgona där bristen på tillgänglighet och smyckningsplatser framträder tydligt. En skissprocess har undersökt hur slutsatser från arbetets metoder kan samspela med nuvarande gestaltning för att inte bryta platsens karaktär. Metoderna som skissprocessen undersökt är: en förstudie, ett platsbesök och tre analyser som tillsammans har kartlagt problemrymden och Lewerentz arkitektur för att svara på syftet med arbetet.

I gestaltningsprocessen redovisas de slutsatser som dragits från metoderna genom olika skisser som sedan har applicerats och testats på gestaltningsområdet. Olika avvägningar av idéer med lösningar för tillgänglighet, tolkning av Lewerentz arkitektur och utrymme för gravljus och snittblommor har prövats för att nå gestaltningsförslaget. Slutsatsen av prövningarna blev att en effektivisering av användningen av utrymme för gravljus och snittblommor krävs samt en upphöjning för tillgängligheten. Förhoppningen med detta arbete var att smyckningsplatserna vid minneslunden på Östra kyrkogården skulle kunna utveckla sin sociala hållbarhet och samtidigt bevara kulturvärdena av Lewerentz arkitektur.

This essay aims to create a design proposal for the decoration sites at the memorial grove at Östra kyrkogården in Malmö to meet future requirements for function and preserve the character of Sigurd Lewerentz's architecture on the site. The proposal promotes social sustainability and therefore a more accessible place for relatives of the passed-away to visit and place candles and flowers. The demands that challenge the memorial grove today are a consequence of the increasing population in the city of Malmö, which has mainly increased the number of visitors at the cemetery during All Saints' Day, where the lack of accessibility and room to place candles becomes evident. A process of sketching has examined how conclusions from the work's methods can interact with the current design in order not to break the character of the site. These methods are: a pilot study, a site visit and three different analyzes that together have examined the deficiencies of the present memorial grove’s functionality and Lewerentz's architecture to serve the purpose of this essay.

The conclusions from the design process are presented through various sketches that have been applied and tested on the site. Various ideas with solutions for accessibility, interpretation of Lewerentz's architecture and room for candles and flowers have been tried out to reach the result. The conclusion of the sketching process was that the memorial grove's decoration sites need to streamline the use of space for grave candles and flowers and be at a higher level for accessibility. The hope with this work is that the decoration sites at the memorial grove at Östra kyrkogården can develop in social sustainability and also preserve the cultural values of Lewerentz architecture.
