Abstract

I denna omställning

The forest is an important resource for Sweden which among other things creates economic benefits
and is becoming increasingly important in the transition to a more sustainable society
(Skogsindustrierna u.å). In this transformation, the private forest owners play an important role as
they are the largest group of forest owners (Skogsstyrelsen 2018). Recently the goals, knowledge,
and background of private forest owners have changed (Haugen et al. 2016), where the so-called
“soft values” such as ecology, recreation, and the feeling of owning forests have become
increasingly important (Swedbank et al. 2019). These changes can mainly be seen among the smaller
forest owners, which can lead to passivity (Eggers et al. 2014). Due to this change, it is considered
that there is a need for simplified forest management plans to increase the understanding and activity
of the smaller forest owners.
The aim of the study is to investigate whether there is a need for a simplified forestry plan for small
forest owners by examining what the forest owners demand and might need. To do this, the method
design science has been used. The collection of data was done by a literature review and interviews
with forest owners, in order to gain a background in the subject and investigate the forest owner´s
demands and needs.
The results of the study indicate that many smaller forest owners currently do not have a forestry
plan. These forest owners also have very different goals with their forest ownership, where the "soft
values" were proved to be the most important. The biggest problem forest owners see in their forest
ownership is the lack of time. By the forest owners who stated that they had lower knowledge of
forestry, simplification of the forestry plan was considered to be appreciated as much of the
information presented in today's forestry plans was difficult to understand and interpret. The
probability that also other forest owners that has the same level of knowledge also find this
information to be hard to interpret is considered likely. The prototype of the forest management plan
that was developed needs to be further evaluated to ensure that it meets the forest owners'
requirements and can be useful in practice.
