Abstract

På dagens marknad finns en mängd olika bett i varierande utformningar och storlekar. De marknadsförs för att fylla en rad olika funktioner och främja hästens välfärd. Forskning har påvisat fynd av skador i munhålan relaterade till bett. Trots detta saknas kunskap om vilka faktorer som styr ryttarens val av ett specifikt bett till en häst och vid olika tillfällen. Syftet med denna kandidatuppsats är att undersöka vilka typer av bett som används inom disciplinerna hoppning, dressyr och fälttävlan genom att besvara frågeställningarna; Vilka bett använder ryttare inom sin disciplin? Vilka faktorer utgör ryttarens val av ett specifikt bett? Studien genomfördes som en enkätstudie och resultatet bearbetades med hjälp av Chi2. Det mest förekommande bettet inom alla disciplinerna var tränsbett, följt av stångbett i dressyr, hackamore i fälttävlan och hävstångsbett i hoppning. Det fanns även en signifikant skillnad mellan grupperna. De faktorer som styr ryttarens val av bett är ryttarens egen upplevelse av tillfredsställelsen i kontakten, följt av storleken på bettet. En upptäckt i denna kandidatuppsats var att svarsfrekvensen kring att ta hjälp av en utbildad person var relativt låg i förhållande till svarsalternativ standardbett. Det vore intressant att utforska vad detta beror på. Svarssammanställningen i denna kandidatuppsats har gett en kartläggning kring faktorer som påverkar ryttarens val av bett i Sverige och kan och kan komma att ligga till grund för framtida studier.

There are a lot of types of bits, with different formations and sizes, available today. They are designed to fulfil different functions and to promote the horse’s welfare. Scientific studies have shown lesions in the oral cavity related to bits. Despite this, there is a lack of knowledge about the factors that guide the rider’s choice of a specific bit for a horse and at different times. The purpose of this bachelor study is to examine what types of bits that is common in the disciplines show jumping, dressage, and eventing by answering the questions; What types of bits does the rider use in their discipline? What factors constitutes a rider’s choice of a certain bit? This study was conducted as a survey study and the results were processed with Chi2-tests. The most occurring bit in all disciplines were snaffle, followed by the Weymouth in dressage, the hackamore in eventing and the elevator bit in show jumping. There was also a significant difference between the groups. The factors that make the rider’s choice of bit is the rider’s own perception of satisfying connection, followed by the size. A discovery in this bachelor study were the response rate on getting helped by an educated person with the bit were low compared to the answer option standard bit. It would be interesting to explore why that is. The compilation in this bachelor study has given a survey on the bit using in Sweden and may serve as groundwork for further studies in the subject.
