Abstract

Uppsatsen behandlar ämnet mötesplatser utifrån forskningsfrågorna; hur fungerar mötesplatser, hur ser samspelet mellan platsen och interaktionen ut, samt hur bidrar mötena till utformandet av en lokal identitet? Utifrån dessa frågor undersöks och analyseras den mindre orten Kimstads olika mötesplatser; som kyrkoförsamlingen, idrottsföreningen KGoIF, Kimstad byalag, pizzerian och hembygdsföreningen. Samt även mer diffusa mötesplatser som tågstationen, bokbussen, lekplatserna och det virtuella mötesplatserna. Under uppsatsens avslutande del tar jag upp att en mötesplats är mer än bara en fysisk punkt på en karta. Det lyfts också reflektioner från att ha analyserat ovan nämnda platser i ett försök att besvara frågeställningarna, i fråga huruvida medlemmarna i ett community ser på mötesplatserna och hur de använder dessa för att möta och interagera med andra personer. Sedan har jag också undersökt hur olika åldrar interagerar på mötesplatserna. Reflektionerna i sig bygger på socialantropologen Anthony P. Cohens och kulturgeografen Doreen Masseys teorier om plats och community.

The essay discusses the subject matter of meeting places based on the questions; how does a meeting place function, how does the interplay between the place and the interaction look like and how do meeting places contribute to the development of a local identity? The essay will inquire into and analyse the place called Kimstad and its meeting places based on these questions. These are meeting places such as the local parish church, the athletic club KGoIF, Kimstad resident association, the pizzeria, and the local history society. However, there are meeting places far more diffuse than these, for example the train station, the book bus, the playgrounds, and the virtual meeting places. In the essay's final part, I will conclude that a meeting place is much more than only a geographical spot on a map. I also account for reflections from my analysis of the mentioned meeting places, based on the essay’s main questions, in how a community's members see meeting places and how they use these for interactions with other individuals. Then I have also investigated how people from different age categories interact with each other at the meeting places. The reflections in the essay are based on the social anthropologist Anthony P. Cohens and the cultural geographer Doreen Masseys theories about place and community.
