Abstract

I denna uppsats studeras ICA-handlares handlingsutrymme och motivation till att lyfta lokal matproduktion. Detta har undersökts genom kvalitativa intervjustudier med fem ICA-handlare i Gävleborg.
Studien ger en inblick i hur ICA-handlare ser på sin roll i arbetet med att öka livsmedelsförsörjningen i Gävleborg. ICA som den ledande aktören inom dagligvaruhandeln (Bern et al. 2018) samt friheten i företagandet som handlarna tycks ha, gör dessa till intressanta intervjupersoner. De kvalitativa intervjuerna har haft semistrukturerad karaktär för att komma nära inpå intervjupersonernas uppfattningar (Kvale & Brickmann 2014). I uppsatsen används Giddens teori kring struktur och aktörskap samt begreppen handlingsutrymme och nudging för att besvara frågeställningarna.
Uppsatsen visar att ICA-handlare har goda möjligheter att lyfta lokal matproduktion. Dels genom ICA:s struktur med fria handlare, dels genom öppen grossistverksamhet som ger handlarna ett stort handlingsutrymme. ICA-handlarna upplever en efterfrågan på lokal mat men begränsas av tillgången. Det ses mer krångligt och tidskrävande att köpa in dessa produkter.

This is an investigation of ICA retailers' room for maneuver and motivation to support local food production. It has been done through qualitative interviews with five ICA retailers in Gävleborg.
The study provides an insight how ICA retailers view their role in the work of increasing food supply in Gävleborg. ICA as the leading player in the grocery trade (Bern et al. 2018) and the freedom of business that retailers seem to have, make these interesting interviewees. The qualitative interviews have had a semi-structured character to get closer to the interviewees' perceptions (Kvale & Brickmann 2014). The essay uses Gidden's theory of structure and actor ship as well as the concepts of room for maneuver and nudging to answer the questions.
The thesis show that ICA retailers have good opportunities to support local food production. Partly through ICA's structure with free traders, partly through open wholesale operations that give traders a large margin of maneuver. ICA retailers experience a demand for local food but feels they are limited by the availability. It seems as more difficult and time consuming to buy these products.
